I am secretly LOLing at the parents who jumped to private

Wait, we are in the middle of a pandemic and schools are shuttering to keep people from dying and your reaction is to laugh at other parents?

OP yes there can be attention to other things but your self-absorption and vindictiveness toward *kids* is really kind of sad.

And this is an all school not a PS only forum.

I figure my $50,000 tuition bill will be worth it next year! She’ll get intensive, in person school at a top private school which will help her to catch up academically from distance learning at our local public school. And I don’t have to waste my 50 grand on distance learning at private school. That’s priceless in my opinion.

+1000 We are also starting private school next year. I knew this year would be a wash out with distance learning at either public or private school, so we’re saving our money for next year when we can do in person private school! Supplementing with a tutor until he starts in the fall.

I have one in private and one in public, and your reaction is just... horrid.

DC in private was in person until last week. Now they are virtual until after christmas break. I am very comfortable with this plan, and certainly don't regret the tuition money.
We knew when they opened in Sept that they would probably need to shut down come winter time.
That was totally fine and expected. In the meantime, he got 2 and a half months of in person school, to build relationships, learn routines, establish expectations, etc. His virtual transition has been pretty seamless.

I SO with the public schools had allowed kids to go in person for even just a month in September, while the weather was nice and cases were low. Those relationship and expectations that would have been built in person would have been invaluable.

We are in a similar position, with one in public and one in private. I find it interesting that there are so many public school teachers complaining about students not logging in or parents not being responsive. My kids log in and participate with DL, but once the private school student had a chance to go in person to meet the teachers and develop a relationship, the level of engagement improved tremendously. As she described it, she just felt more connected to the teacher, which lead to her being more engaged during both in person and DL days. That personal connection makes a difference.

Hope you like paying your big fat tuition bill for nothing!

Fwiw, we hired a tutor rather than doing private and our tutor will of course continue to come and even increase her hours. So I don't really have a dog in this particular fight. Just been cringing at how superior the private school parents think they are.

Secretly? I openly laugh and mock.

They will all be back in-person mid Jan and you'll still be doing sub par DL

We don’t mind your envy, laughing, and mocking! Our school is still open, will return after thanksgiving and continue until the beginning of Christmas break. We want your school to open as well, for what it’s worth.

Our private school didn't close BUT even if it did, the virutal learning program was so much better than the public school during the spring. Even now comparing it to their cousins public school program, it is far better. Laugh all you want, but I have zero regrets.

I hope you are applying for kindergarten because if not, good luck getting a spot. Most of the private schools are filled with sibling waitlists too. Your public school kid may be significantly behind this year while the rest of the kids in private schools won't be. Catch your child up on your own time this year because private school admissions won't want to put that onto their teachers next year when there are kids to admit which aren't behind.

I don' get why public school teachers and parents are voting against private schools? It has to be jealousy. Other than adding to the traffic during my commute with school traffic, we are rooting for public schools to open too. Our private school in Maryland is still open for on campus. We haven't had an outbreak but if we did, I'm sure the public school parents would take some sort of sick joy in it or something. I know that there are more challenges to a public school opening than a private one. They can't be compared. Same for DL. The two can't be compared. We have small classes, different technology and have had almost 4 months on campus to get to know the teachers, etc.

My kids DL has been excellent. Better than in person because fewer shitty kids with their disruptive behavior and fewer dumb interruptions like assemblies etc
