I am secretly LOLing at the parents who jumped to private

Hope you like paying your big fat tuition bill for nothing!

Fwiw, we hired a tutor rather than doing private and our tutor will of course continue to come and even increase her hours. So I don't really have a dog in this particular fight. Just been cringing at how superior the private school parents think they are.

OP, you sound really insecure. I'm sorry you don't have more substantive things to focus on.

When my kids are bored with DL they’re surfing the web or playing stupid games...

I check to see what they've done each week. They're usually outside after school or on weekends so that's pretty much the only time they'd have to do it. I wouldn't care too much if they surf the web or play video games sometimes during the boring DL filler activities as long as their grades and iReady scores are good.

The parents who went to private did this because tutors or pods didn't work for them. And the $$ are coming from their savings. I am not taking any pleasure in their and their families' suffering. Kids are hurting and parents are hurting - this post is so childish and in very poor taste.

To OP and other PPs that agree with this post, you all need to grow up and stop hanging around crappy people and regulate your social media.

+1000 PP. well said.

I have a first grader who is doing distance learning through our local MCPS elementary school. All things considered I’m pretty happy with how he is doing. We arranged a pod with our neighbors and hired a college student to oversee three kids who are all in the same class. There are definitely issues with the pod so it’s not an ideal situation. I considered enrolling him in the catholic school by our house but I decided against it because I’m not committed to sending him to private in the long term. I felt it would be too disruptive to have him go to private school for only a year and then pull him back into our local public school. Most of the parent I know who opted for private school seemed to want private school all along and the pandemic was the push they needed to make the switch. Since they should hopefully be back in school in the fall, I feel good about the decision we made.

I'm cringing over how superior you think you are.

Seriously. OP is pathetic.

^^This. Won't bother reading the 8 page thread, but we have be been in person for 11 weeks, taking this week off, and back on Monday. Just got confirmation Monday return is a go.

We are still in person. Why do you think all privates are closing?

I’ll keep paying because I found out how superior it is in my area

the are "Loling" at you
they have figured out by now how piss poor their "great local public" really was and they are not planning to return

Having been through private and public for our kids, even the best public in this area just doesn't compare

Ours isn't shutting down and I wish I would have done this sooner.

Not sure what you're looking for OP. Sorry you can't afford it.

We're all terribly impressed with your finances.

Not the PP you're responding too. But many CAN'T and that is not something to crow about. And for folks like us who can, we chose to give our public school the benefit of the doubt and it is going wonderfully. Engaging, interactive classes. They've even found a way to art and other electives at home. My daughter just had a class where she needed glue, screwdriver, and other tools, to use with materials we picked up at the school.

So, not all of us had to spend the money to get a wonderful education in their public school.
