$20K makes sense when you need child care. We paid for private k-3rd and it was worth it but it depends on the child. |

My kid’s private is still open and I think it was money well spent for my kindergartener.
My Older two who I kept in fcps will have no in person education for over a year. My only regret is that I was too chicken to send all 3 to private because I was afraid that would be a lot of money if the school closed but in hindsight that was probably a mistake. Oh well. |
+1 another private all along family here who think that whatever parents have to do to get through this is their family's business. If people have the money to spend and wanted to pivot for the chance at some in-person + seemingly stronger DL then why be a jerk? |

My kids have enjoyed hybrid and 5 days a week since sept. Don’t regret it for a second. But we left public years ago and never looked back.
BTw how much do you pay for tutoring when you add it up and compare to annual tuition. PS I expect that many public schools will have to remediate for a certain amount of time with the amount of lost learning. So enjoy that part too |
| I send my kid to an accredited kindergarten program at a private daycare. I need both childcare and in person education. It has never been closed this year because it is a daycare. They have 1st grade accredited program, and I am debating if I should sign up for 2021-2022. |

I will say it - OP is a bitch. Karma has a way...

If they are doing a good job, I would. Smaller school, more attention and child care. |
Same. Ours hasn't yet announced a closure but I hope they close from Thanksgiving until after Christmas. We have been in person since Sept and I'm pleased we made it this far. I think DL with the smaller class size (vs public) will be better too. I don't feel superior to anyone but I'm glad we made this choice over the summer. |

I’m paying $1600/month ($16k/year) for in person school for my 1st grader. They’ve been 5 days per week since August and plan to continue through winter break. No regrets. My plan was always to be a public school family, but it wasn’t the right choice this year. We are already trying to rearrange our budget to make 2nd grade work in case FCPS is still a mess next year.
If my child were slightly older, I might not have done it. At 6 they need so much attention that we couldn’t provide, so we would have had to hire help. $15/hr * 8 hours per day * 4 days per week = $480/week = $1920/month (more than private school) Private was the right choice for us. |
| Yep, I knew that private schools would have to shut down this year and that’s why I waited until now to apply to private school for my daughter. I figure my $50,000 tuition bill will be worth it next year! She’ll get intensive, in person school at a top private school which will help her to catch up academically from distance learning at our local public school. And I don’t have to waste my 50 grand on distance learning at private school. That’s priceless in my opinion. |
| PP here. And of course we are supplementing her education with a tutor this year until she goes to private school. |

Our private has been in person 5 full days a week since mid-august. The school is following the governor’s phases. The governor has not moved back to phase two, so the school is still open in person. I’m not sure why you think everyone is going online? There have been very few cases at school and no spread. So at this point, there would be no reason to close in person learning.
Even if we do switch to online, we’ve had critical time in the classroom. Also, they will be able to go back in person much faster than the public school systems. So I would say they will likely have at least 7 months of in person school this year. School tuition is much cheaper than a nanny for us. And since we both work, it has been a good decision for us. I feel really bad for all the parents who couldn’t move their kids to private who wanted to. I know there were not enough spots. I’m glad OPs decision worked well for his/her family. But no need to make blanket statements as to others situations. |
| You know given the number of people who are coming around Public School forms to Lord over there superiority in being able to pay a $30,000 tuition and how great it is, I think it's fine to mock them. I'm sure that their retort is that their distance learning is just so much better than public school distance because of the sunk cost phenomenon |
