I am secretly LOLing at the parents who jumped to private

We jumped to private, and I am thrilled. Our children have been to in person school and are learning, growing, thriving. I do not feel taken advantage of, I knew what we were getting into and have no regrets. It's only money and we can afford it.

Hope you like paying your big fat tuition bill for nothing!

Fwiw, we hired a tutor rather than doing private and our tutor will of course continue to come and even increase her hours. So I don't really have a dog in this particular fight. Just been cringing at how superior the private school parents think they are.

Secretly? I openly laugh and mock.

They will all be back in-person mid Jan and you'll still be doing sub par DL

My kids DL has been excellent. Better than in person because fewer shitty kids with their disruptive behavior and fewer dumb interruptions like assemblies etc

NP. I would never admit it except on an anonymous message board, but I agree 100%. Well, I admit my kids are doing great in DL, but a big reason is because the lessons aren't getting disrupted every ten minutes by the kids who can't keep up or keep their mouths and bodies quiet. The ones who are disruptive have mostly stopped showing up, or else they get muted if they interrupt. It's lovely. Also, my kids can read independently or do Khan Academy during their 100th lesson about social emotional learning. Reasonably bright kids in public school will probably come out just fine after DL. The ones who can't hack it probably weren't kicking ass pre-pandemic, either.

So you're gloating about making a superior decision to those annoying people who think they are superior? Yep. Makes sense.

You say your happy with what you have done and then blame private school parents for being satisfied with their choice? I’m okay with you being satisfied with homeschooling and a private tutor, why is it so hard for you to do the same, or at least refrain from being upset?

Are you drunk or just dumb and have no knowledge of grammar? Yikes.

About an 11 on the rage scale. You’d do better by channeling that energy into a hobby or meditation or prayer. I know anonymously working yourself into a fury against private school parents can’t be all that satisfying.

Anonymous wrote:What I find hilarious is all these Potomac parents who have kids in amazing public schools that are like “oh we are switching to Bullis or Saint Andrews and having a better experience!” Don’t you realize that you’re being taken advantage of? Or ... you just don’t get it. Those schools will take anyone who can pay. And we all can. We just know better.

It really is fun to tell ourselves lives. Sour grapes and all that.

What makes you think we didn't see this coming? We absolutely understood there was a large chance we would be virtual at some point this year. That doesn't make the in person time less valuable! That's precisely why it was such a travesty that public schools didn't go back in September when numbers were lower and the weather was good.

+1 I think everyone knew this would happen eventually this year. I feel for the parents of kids who have yet to set foot in a building this year.

If you think three weeks in person is worth 40k then you do you.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Who are these people? Our HHI is $400,000 so we're not poor but I'm not blowing $40,000 per kid so they can attend a couple of weeks or 2 months of in person school. If we go private we'll do it next when school is in person for the whole year and my children can get the individualized attention that private schools are known for. Until then it's DL at our top rated public school.

But, OP, even 1 microsecond of in person school has ensured their children’s lifelong good mental health and admission to the Ivies.

We’ve been in person since September. Happy that things are shutting down now, and grateful for the time in person. My early elementary child was getting Zoomed out (“too much screen time,” his words). He has loved being with his friends and teacher. They spent a lot of time outdoors, hiking and building things. He is back to his happy self after a long summer. I expect we will be back in March — just in time after a long winter.

They’re people who have more money than you. 400k in this area and this day and age is straight up lmc or middle class.

Public school teacher here. I can’t afford private. I’m sad.

Our private has a couple of new teachers this year. They were prior public school teachers who wanted their kids in school. So they get to work in person and have their kids in person as well.

My kids have been in school since 8/28 so 12 weeks (rougly) of in person time. Yes, it's worth it. My youngest struggled with DL. We have a strong chance of returning on campus after the holidays. Do public schools?

Private School = Teachers Accountable (like in the real working world). Priceless.

Public School = No Accountability of Teachers (Unionized, Protected and Will Always Get Their Paycheck Despite Low Job Performance). Worthless.

My middle child was on track to enter K in FCPS last September, and we've put her in private K with great trepidation. I couldn't be happier now. Their school has been open and has no plans to close.

She's having a great time with her classmates, learning, moving, dancing, spending time outdoors. This is what school should be like for a 5-year old. Not stuck in front of a screen! I wish all kids could have that. I'm not loling at anyone. It's a very tough year for kids and for the parents.

I see my 4th grader hating DL and sliding down in grades because he just can't stay focused on a school screen for hours. It's very tough. Kids need school. I hope they reopen at least next September.

To the PP who said her kids were doing ok because they were doing khan academy lessons during the stupid social emotional learning lessons... that sounds great but how do you make them do that unless you’re standing over them? When my kids are bored with DL they’re surfing the web or playing stupid games...
