Me too😂

OP’s tone was rude, but this is the attitude that begets posts like hers in the first place. So congrats on being one of the chosen few rich and/or lucky enough to have secured a spot in your superior institution. Though my kids are doing well enough with DL, I admit I am jealous of the private school kids who I have watched skipping off to school every day since September. You would be, too, so maybe just shut your trap for a while.

Please try to remember how incredibly fortunate your kids are to be able to enjoy a relatively uninterrupted educational experience this year. There are scores and scores of children nationwide for whom this is not true, and someday they will be filling your prescriptions, building the bridges you drive over, electing your presidents... you get the idea. Though you may feel relatively insulated from this now, we all stand to lose so much.

But besides being angry and rude to private school parents, why not direct that anger to your government who is failing you? Private schools aren’t the problem. It’s your elected officials, school boards, etc. Private schools have figured out how to make it work. I’m sure public schools could as well if they put in the effort. Your classist digs to aren’t warranted either. We are solidly middle class and sacrifice quite a bit to send our kids to private.

I think OP set the tone for the overall thread with her unwarranted us vs them attitude.

I’ve directed plenty of anger at my government officials and I have enough leftover for people like the PP laughing at the poor saps “stuck in public.”

I agree that OP set the tone. Can’t really start a thread to say “NYEAH NYEAH” and then complain when someone sticks their tongue out at you, can you?

Luckily, there are a lot of posters on this thread who are way more mature than OP.

We never considered private school before, but switched our kids this year.

It has been eye opening how much more robust the instruction and expectations are at their private school compared to their public school, especially for middle school. I think the public middle school was just housing kids for a few years. My kid got all A's in public and learned so little.

At the private school all the students are in what the public school would consider "advanced math". At the private, this math curriculum is the baseline expectation.

The science curriculum is hands down more challenging and robust and the writing curriculum is at least a year ahead of the public school's.

My kids' private school is still going in person, but if they switch to DL - oh well - I understood that to be a risk when I signed them up. We are keeping out kids in private from here on out anyway - when you know better - you do better!

We decided to homeschool our youngest kids and are so happy. We kind of missed the boat on the private and didn't want to pay that much this year with all the unpredictability, but I think people who did - good for them if it is working and it sounds like it is. I think the people who put their kids in private were smart too.

The real suffering, from what I can tell, is is in the ES for public who have always been DL (in FCPS). There are some people shouting from the rooftops that it is working for them, but for most it is not. Unfortunately in a district as large as FCPS they aren't going back anytime soon. Should have probably gone back from Aug - Nov.

What makes you think we didn't see this coming? We absolutely understood there was a large chance we would be virtual at some point this year. That doesn't make the in person time less valuable! That's precisely why it was such a travesty that public schools didn't go back in September when numbers were lower and the weather was good.

I figure my $50,000 tuition bill will be worth it next year! She’ll get intensive, in person school at a top private school which will help her to catch up academically from distance learning at our local public school. And I don’t have to waste my 50 grand on distance learning at private school. That’s priceless in my opinion.

+1000 We are also starting private school next year. I knew this year would be a wash out with distance learning at either public or private school, so we’re saving our money for next year when we can do in person private school! Supplementing with a tutor until he starts in the fall.

How do you know there will be a spot for your kid? School have, and will continue to have, waitlists.

+1 I think everyone knew this would happen eventually this year. I feel for the parents of kids who have yet to set foot in a building this year.

Because we’re applying to multiple private schools for an entry year (6th grade) and are full pay.

Hope you like paying your big fat tuition bill for nothing!

Fwiw, we hired a tutor rather than doing private and our tutor will of course continue to come and even increase her hours. So I don't really have a dog in this particular fight. Just been cringing at how superior the private school parents think they are.

So you're gloating about making a superior decision to those annoying people who think they are superior? Yep. Makes sense.

You say your happy with what you have done and then blame private school parents for being satisfied with their choice? I’m okay with you being satisfied with homeschooling and a private tutor, why is it so hard for you to do the same, or at least refrain from being upset?

Our neighbor put her kids in private and now they're getting divorced. Apparently fighting about money all that time will do that to you.

Yeah - I'm sure private school caused their divorce. I imagine the pressures of Distance Learning with multiple children could cause marital issues as well.

If you think three weeks in person is worth 40k then you do you.

Are you drunk or just dumb and have no knowledge of grammar? Yikes.

What I find hilarious is all these Potomac parents who have kids in amazing public schools that are like “oh we are switching to Bullis or Saint Andrews and having a better experience!” Don’t you realize that you’re being taken advantage of? Or ... you just don’t get it. Those schools will take anyone who can pay. And we all can. We just know better.
