Everything and anything although they are pretty much set on no normal season. Virtual “postal” meets, a reduced season if they can get it in during July, pretty much a bunch of options depending on what happens. They may have a better idea after Governor Northman’s press conference on Monday. There is some thought (rumor?) he may mix all youth sports for the summer, but we will see. Other than that they could see what into comes out between now and Memorial Day.

Guessing mix is autocorrect for nix. That would seem unfair, why punish the kids?

Well presumably non-essential business will be open so you can get your hair and nails done. But kids are not allowed to take part in sport.

Yes. “Nix”. Sorry. Good catch.

I was just talking to a few friends this morning re: our local pool, and we basically all kind of agreed that it might not even be in our own pool's hands to decide - that VA or Fairfax County might make some across the board decision about all pools for the summer. I had stopped watching Northam's daily briefings but it sounds like Monday's might be fairly newsy so I will try to listen in.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said he'll present new guidelines next week for the state's eventual reopening, adding progress has been made in boosting testing and obtaining medical supplies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

PP here. I have no doubt it will ultimately be up to what the governor says and then what the health departments require as far as pools being able to open.

The email to NVSL team reps said if you can’t wait to cancel, cancel. The NVSL is waiting for more info from the governor but if it is in the best interest of the club’s team to cancel do so. Some teams have said they can’t wait any longer and others are saying they can hold on.

Is their a unique problem with the Individual pools for the reps pushing to cancel? Or is it the reps who can’t deal with the uncertainty and would rather have a ‘no’ than a ‘maybe’?

Also, is it the bigger low division teams pushing to cancel or is it smaller high division teams?

The email doesn’t specify.
Your team reps should have it soon if they don’t already.

You can't see the difference? You can have someone getting nails and hair done with no one on either side of the patron/provider. You can't do a team sports without a...well...team. Non-essential businesses can operate without crowding. Most teams, esp. a swim team, cannot do that. A diving team could probably do that. A basketball could do some drills with distance between players. Swim team has a limited space for starts, limited space on either end of the pool where kids rest and wait to swim again and limited space in the lanes.

Where did I say anything about swim team? My comment was regarding Northam cancelling all youth summer sports.

Their board meets this afternoon

Hopefully they won’t make a final decision today.

There are a few teams making a strong push for canceling altogether. The vast majority have been quiet.

Is it clear why they are pushing to cancel completely right now?

I think those pools in NVSL wanting you scrap are not in good financial situations and want to know yes or no. I wish NVSL could figure out how to modify but the insurance is the tough part.

Maybe those pools should decide to not participate this year and not pressure the nvsl to make a hasty decision on behalf of the rest.

Take for example a swim club that has already decided to not open this summer. If a nearby club opens and there is some type of competitive swim team season the cub that isn’t opening stands to lose members to the others.

Most swim teams are limited to kids in the neighborhood or families who belong to the pool.

Agree. If bars, salons, movie theaters, bowling etc etc is open, kids should be allowed to play outdoor sports!

Aren’t the biggest teams in the top divisions, and the smallest teams at the bottom?

That sounds like an HOA pool. Our club mostly pulls from the immediate neighborhood, but we have members from a decent ways away. If a pool doesn’t open and a nearby pool does, then the families from the closed pool might go to the other. If there is some type of team season the kids could swim for that other team. We probably have at least 4 or 5 clubs within 2 miles of each other.
