How Do U Know When to Pull Plug?

Sorry to hijack the post, but that poster's (above) mentality is so problematic.

It is why we, as a society, won't even come up with enough money to test rape kits. Much easier to lecture young women on their responsibilities to protect themselves from predators!

Those of you so convinced of what the situation is and how to handle it, obviously have baggage that is making you see everything thru one lense. Have a little faith in this parent and the professionals he has engaged. Just be supportive, not preachy already.

The OP is the one that mentioned her daughter having a 6 month issue with alcohol that included drunk driving and resulted in assault.. Moreover, the girl gets drunk alone. No one is telling OP not to engage professionals, but that sounds like alcoholism.

Anyone who partied in high school drove drunk at least once. Not saying it was smart but I know quite a few successful professionals who left my house ****faced in high school. Dumb teen mistakes.

What were this girl’s 8th semester high school grades? Did she sit for AP exams in May - how’d she score? Did she work this summer?

Where does this leave children? At the mercy of whatever sick male they happen to find in their social circle?

Focus on the actions of the predators, not restricting the potential victims.

Why don’t you care about PROTECTING girls FROM the predators?

Times are different, and app based rides are now plentiful.

What social 12th grader hadn’t had an “issue” with alcohol for the 6 months leading up to college? Once you get into your college, most seniors are just mailing it in and partying, letting off steam after years of rat race.

What are her grades for the last semester? Is she drunk every night? Has she dropped out of classes? One Friday is not an alcoholic. If her grades are ok and she doesn't want to drop out, what can you really do? I mean, clearly, you can refuse to pay, and that is certainly an option.
My SIL pulled the plug after 4 years, her ds smoked weed all night and slept all day, he was at home for a semester to get better, she blamed it on depression...hence he was not and addict and was doing it because of depression. Finally after less than 6 classed passed in 4 years and going back to college and his own apartment after being "better" they pulled the plug.

Agreed. I suspect 10:07 is an alcoholic.
Everyone needs to read that Psychology Today article linked up thread. Everything is explained about 10:07.

Ehhhhhhh I’d argue driving side streets back home drunk are probably safer than a drunk teen girl getting into an Uber with some creep who could be a criminal and not even who the car is registered to.

You sound like an alcoholic. There are plenty of alternatives to driving drunk.

Since OP never mentioned final semester grades, I’d bet they were good. Since OP never mentioned “bombed AP exams” I’d infer they’re also good.

Finding your 18yo teen kid drunk a few times the summer before college isn’t THAT big of a deal.

Everyone asking about her grades and AP scores has missed the point. The answers to those questions can tell us if she is a high functioning alcoholic or not but will not tell us if she is an alcoholic or not.

It is clear that her relationship to alcohol is problematic at the very least.

Problem drinking + blaming drinking on environment + stupid, reckless decisions (drunk driving) are classic hallmarks of alcoholism

Am I the only one who thinks the OP isn't real? Something about the way the post was written doesn't seem sincere to me.
