Lottery (and Waitlist) Swami 2019

Here's our list for PK3 (no sibling preference):

Capital City
EL Haynes
Breakthrough Montessori
Lee Montessori
Inspired Teaching
DC Bilingual
MV 8th St
Stokes Spanish
Stokes French
Creative Minds
Takoma (Proximity approved)
Whittier (IB approved)

Swami says you will be gifted for not being spooked by the Breakthrough Tier Three report and will get in on lottery day. Your other number won't budge much, and your kid will complain about having to walk to the same playground that you guys play on during the week. Your tomato plants in your box garden also need to be moved about 4 feet to the right-- the sun wasn't on them correctly last year.

PK4, no sibling, currently at our IB in Columbia Heights.

Two Rivers 4th
Inspired Teaching
Two Rivers Young
Stokes Spanish
Stokes French
Mundo Verde P st
Mundo Verde East End
Seaton

Swami hopes you have good patience and gas mileage, because you will trudge through Dave Thomas Circle every day for a year to Young until you transfer to 4th for kindergarten. Every time you drive past Seaton you wonder if you should have put it higher on your list. You will sign a "Save Shaw Middle" petition just in case.

Swami says if you don't have preference at any of these schools, you'll have a top 40 WL number at Langley and get in by July 15th. You'll go to the playdates until then with the confidence of my Swamiing behind you.

Swami says you will get into Lee in the initial lottery with a top 20 number at ITS. You will load the waitlist every day and see it not budge. You will get a call from ITS two days after your Lee home visit and after you purchased a bunch of Cat and Jack polos at a buy one get two three price. Your decision to go to ITS comes down to school day off coverage and not having to wear a uniform. You will lead the fundraising effort to get umbrella canopies on the ITS playground and guaranteed Edgewood football field access.

It is for fun first and foremost -- like reading your horoscope (don't change your job based on what it says).

Swami is a shrewd observer of the lottery, and makes "predictions" about your chances. Has done it the last few years.

She is pretty accurate when handicapping one's WL numbers, and whether they will get an offer between the lottery results date and the first day of school. Her writing style is always amusing.

Some take it all too seriously, IMO .. and freak out if she doesn't log in for a couple of days.

Swami is funny, wry, and quite knowledgeable about a large number of schools. It is entertaining and impressive.

Swami hopes you are comfortable putting your three year old on the bus for two years, because your child will get into CMHL and wonder what the heck to do now regarding renting for the two years they are in swing space. You will wonder what Maria Montessori thought about this.

Your kids will both get "good enough" numbers, with the louder one pulling in their twin to Mundo 8th. You will smugly enjoy a good year as P Street goes to the hell with the double campus issue. You feel good enough about your DCI chance with having twins. You will lead a petition to buy out Scrilli to gain better playground space.
