The Chicago Police Department said 36-year-old Empire star Jussie Smollett told authorities he was assaulted early Tuesday morning by two suspects who yelled out “racial and homophobic slurs” before the attack. A Chicago Police spokesperson told The Daily Beast that the attackers’ genders are unknown, and that their faces and hands had been covered. TMZ reported that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country,” but police told the Beast, “There is no report of that being said.”

Many of the posts on this thread are revolting. What happened to believing the victim? I could maybe understand a call to wait until further facts are disclosed but to take the facts as they are and conclude that they are just made up is ridiculous. I’m ashamed of you guys.

TMZ made up things. According to the police report, there was no "MAGA" statements or clothing. That little tidbit is a fabrication by TMZ, most likely to sensationalize the story.

A police report is not a police investigation.

A police report is just the basic facts. The investigation will have more information.
