The Chicago Police Department said 36-year-old Empire star Jussie Smollett told authorities he was assaulted early Tuesday morning by two suspects who yelled out “racial and homophobic slurs” before the attack. Smollett told police that the suspects hit him in the face around 2 a.m. and “poured an unknown chemical substance” on him, according to the statement. “At some point during the incident, one of the offenders wrapped a rope around the victim’s neck,” the police statement says. “The offenders fled the scene.” Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and is in “good condition,” authorities said. Police say they are investigating the “possible racially-charged assault and battery” as a possible hate crime. Smollett has yet to comment on the alleged attack.

A Chicago Police spokesperson told The Daily Beast that the attackers’ genders are unknown, and that their faces and hands had been covered. TMZ reported that the attackers shouted “This is MAGA country,” but police told the Beast, “There is no report of that being said.”

How did he know they were white?
So your whole takeaway and the one thing that stands out for you to comment on is this? I can't even with some of these comments in this thread. So, you really think a brown person in Chicago is wearing a MAGA hat and yelling racial slurs at him? You think a black person is yelling "you will die you black F***" and calling him the N word?

smh, I guess nothing should really surprise me anymore.

No, just that this did not happen out of the blue. Someone planned it.

Explain yourself. You make no sense. And yes people do get attacked out of the blue. All the time!

Attacked by masked men who know who the victim is, and who happen to be carrying rope for a noose and a bottle of bleach- at 2 am, shortly after the victim stepped off a plane? Around the same time that the victim has received cartoonish hate mail?

What about this says “out of the blue” to you?

I’m just trying to understand your line of thinking. Are you saying that Someone knew he was going to be in Chicago and followed him with the intention of hurting him?

No idea why, how, or by whom it was arranged, but the attack was arranged, is what I am saying.

Drug deal gone bad? Or prostitution gone bad? Stalkers? It is so dang cold right now in Chicago. Too copd to be outside at 2:00 without a purpose.

Ah, so you think HE was up to no good and falsely claimed masked men attacked him.

+1 but I’m not all surprised. I searched for this thread just see how it would be explained away. DCUM did not disappoint.

No they are not. Posters have been implying this was a planned attack. Someone set him up.

This seems like the Kim K robbery. Where the criminals knew where he was going to be and waited for him. If I were him I would be scrutinizing anyone in my inner circle.

DP. Read the first page again, starting with the third comment, and the fifth. People were literally saying that they don't *necessarily* think he's not an innocent victim, but they want to hear more, etc.

Yup, that’s how I’m interpreting these weird comments as well. Also seeing a couple comments theorizing he was targeted/followed by, presumably, violent racists in a premeditated attack. Which could make sense.

And? No one here knows who may have been involved, but the incident as reported sounds like it was absolutely premeditated rather than random.

Here are the comments:

Third post: “I'm sorry but the whole scenario reads like the script from an after school special. I need to hear more.”

Fifth post: “So this guy arrives in Chicago late Monday, and a few hours later there are a couple of guys who recognize him and happen to have a noose and bottle of bleach on them.

I’m not necessarily doubting that he’s an innocent victim, but someone set this up.”

Both are implying that this wasn’t random - that it was a targeted attack. Thinking it’s a target attack doesn’t equal saying Jussie was involved. You’re creating drama in these posts that isn’t there.

Right, but thats not the topic being addressed by the OP in this subthread. People are literally implying that he was up to no good, that they need to hear the whole story, that he may not be innocent. What are you missing?

I’m missing nothing, but apparently you are.

I agree. I’m a little skeptical. The “this is MAGA county” comment seems made up to me.

+1.

It wouldn't be the first or the second or the third time someone is making things up

Do you see the bolded? Again, I ask, what would a reasonable person take from this statement? That statement casts doubt on his innocence. You're either being willfully ignorant of the implication here, or you're the PP who wrote it.
