Cody live DJ rides are my favorite. |
It is IOS based |
I was thisclose to getting one until I saw they are coming out with a treadmill. So now I’ll wait and see if that looks better cause I’m a runner. Decisions decisions |
The treadmill is double the price though, if it's worth that to you. I'm a spinner so I'm going to stick with the Peloton bike. |
Makes no sense. I have 3 pieces of cardio equipment at my house. Cycle bike, treadmill, and rower. On the wall in front of each one i have a holder for my tablet. I do this because im a physical thearapist and looking down at a screen is AWFUL for your posture, neck, back, and shoulders, so the tablet goes on the wall and i use my Bluetooth headphones for audio. There are so many great apps out there, including the Pelaton one or I can just watch movies or tv shows.
I see no point in a Pelaton especially if theres a fixed screen that forces my body in a unhealthy position, as cycling can already be very bad on your spine if you do not keep good form. It is near impossible to keep good form looking downwards. When one bikes on the road, your head is up amd spine straight. |
You don't look down at a screen, the screens directly in front of you. I don't understand what you're talking about having to look down. You look straight ahead, neck and head in alignment FWIW. |
You've never been on a Peloton, I'm guessing... |
I have, Westin hotels have them. |
I'm the PP who bought one recently. It's in our house and set up now. So far I am very happy with the purchase. Here are my random thoughts about it:
- I've found the scheduling ease of taking a class in my house to be a huge win. I've already had days where I've exercised that I wouldn't otherwise have exercised, because there is no time wasted. I can't run (long-term spinal injury) so my hard cardio options always involve going somewhere and on busy days, that just doesn't happen. I would buy the Peloton again for that aspect alone. - Instructor quality is high. I've lived in multiple places and fitness instructors in places like LA, NYC, and London are just markedly better on average than in places like DC. It hadn't occurred to me when I was signing up that I was going back to NYC-level instructor quality, and that's a really nice aspect. - The live schedule is not as easy to work with as I'd thought (I can make less of them than I'd imagined), but the live classes are fun. There is something neat about knowing that it's going on at that minute and I love the shoutouts. That's the only reason I use the leaderboard; I don't see the point of the leaderboard in the recorded classes. - We wired up the sound system to a set of real speakers and it makes a big difference in sound quality. I love turning off the lights, closing my eyes, and blasting the music. The sound quality it comes with isn't great. - I don't find I care much about the leaderboard outside of the live classes and tend to hide it, but I do like the live stats about my own rides and the badges. - The DJ rides are really fun. I hadn't thought about how adding a DJ would change things up, but it really does seem to make it more like a party. - I'm not as good a spinner as I thought! One nice thing about the individualized numbers is that I can see where I am with respect to the instructor, as opposed to a live spinning class at my gym. Saying "resistance at 40" is a lot more concrete than "two turns to the right" which is what happens at the gym. I find that I'm working harder in the Peloton classes, I think because I can see what number I'm at all the time. - The streaming is sometimes awful. That's only thing I really don't like because it's very frustrating: you're in the class, in a groove, and things just freeze. |
I'm PP above. I forgot to add one thing, which is that I bought it for me but my kids have really gotten into it, which is nice. My DH, a daily runner, has started switching up his run routine with a spin class. |
Check in for today
45 min interval (Robin) plus a 10 min cool down - energized for the day. |
Thanks for the update 00:08, I'm so excited to have mine delivered!
What accessories did you get with it? |
I got the accessories package because I wanted the mat and to buy shoes anyhow since my shoes were SPD. The mat is a good idea. It's thick and seems to protect the floor well. The shoes are also good. I don't care about the water bottles. The heart rate monitor seems low quality and if I didn't want the mat and shoes I wouldn't have bothered. I haven't used the ear buds but they seem decent. We should try to do a DCUM live class! |
If you can use the App on regular ipad and do the live class, what’s the benefit? |
