Anyone tried Peleton Bikes for the home?

If you do this, are there things you miss out on that you wish you had? I think they do some tracking on the Peloton bikes, right? Does it seem worth it to have those?

I have done a lot of spinning so have a good sense of what resistance should feel like when they call out numbers etc. I am also not personally motivated by comparing my stats against others so that wasn’t a favor. This was an affordable way for me to get the Peloton experience and it’s been awesome.

Factor not favor

I thought this was interesting, including the comments:

LMAO! Their commercials are definitely aspirational. Your post made me laugh out loud!

Have one. It is unbelievable. I actually look forward to the ride and generally add one on so if I go down for a 45 min ride I tack on another 20 or 30.

Can’t say enough good things about it

PP with the same set up as the PP above. The biggest difference is that, like any spin class, the instructors give you cadence and resistance recommendations and if you don’t have a Pelo bike, your metrics may not match. So 65 resistance on a Pelo bike might be very different on your non-Pelo bike. I just estimate it the best I can. It’s not hard, especially cadence which they usually tie to the beat of the music. The other difference is that when you join a live class, the instructor can see you joined, but can’t see your metrics and you can’t “compete” with the other riders to reach the top of the leaderboard since your non-Pelo bike isn’t online.

For the Beyond the Ride classes (strength training, yoga), you need to use the Pelo app on your phone or iPad anyway (it would be difficult to watch the monitor on the bike while doing the exercises), so I don’t find it cumbersome to use my iPad on the bike for the actual spin classs either.

If I didn’t already have a spin bike, i’d probably splurge for a Pelo bike. But if you already have a spin bike, I’m not sure it’s worth it to get the Pelo bike.

Thanks for the tip PP. We have a spin bike so I'll try out the Peloton app first.

For those without a Pelo bike, what bike do you have? Anyone have the flywheel app/bike instead? I currently take flywheel classes but would like to get a bike because getting to 6am classes is a PITA.

I e had my bike for 18 months. Still use it 5-7 days a week. Love it. Highly recommend

So I had been on the fence but took the plunge today. There is a showroom not far from where I live so I visited it to try out the bike first. About the bike itself, it's high quality. It's higher quality than the spin bikes at my gym. I have been doing spin classes for 10 years in various locations and this is better than my experience with gym bikes.

I signed up with the 0% interest 39-month payment plan which includes the subscription for 39 months. I view it as a gym membership fee. I wouldn't use the bike without the subscription, so felt comfortable doing that, but not sure I'd do that if I didn't already have a history of doing spinning classes, though.

I will report back to this thread!

So what is your cost? I have not priced these but this thread has me intrigued. I do not have a gym nearby and this sounds like something I could do. Might be worth the (presumably substantial) investment

It's expensive. My per-month total for 39 months is $120. That's delivery and set-up fee, family accessories pack (more below), bike itself, full extended warranty, and monthly subscription fee for 39 months. When I was in the store they told me the base cost of the 39-month financing package was $97/month which I think is just the bike, delivery, and the subscription for 39 months.

You can pay cash for it all of course but in my case I was willing to take the 39-month subscription cost because I don't think it's likely I won't use it, given that I have a long history of spin classes.

The family accessories pack was because I was going to have to buy the mat and new shoes anyhow -- my existing cleats are SPD so not compatible and they are running a promotion right now giving $100 off the accessories. Also my husband wanted a pair of cleats and this was easier than him trying to find time to go buy cleats elsewhere.

I got the warranty because I have seen how gym spin bikes can wear down. Repairs are expensive.

Wow $4,680!! That’s a lot more that I thought it would be!
