Left is just gaslighting the right

I feel for these people, too. I have cousins in PA who are having a hard time getting by. Both my grandfathers were coal miners but now the biggest industry left in my hometown is funeral homes. I got a good education and have a good job, but I had to leave my hometown to get both.

There is this assumption out there that Democrats are heartless and don't care about the plight of these people, but it's not true. We care and we have always wanted to help them. Look at how Clinton really tried to make a difference with the water for the people of Flint. I submit that we certainly care and always will more than a charlatan like Trump does. It's just difficult to accomplish your agenda when Congress says NO at every step.

Clinton promised to put the Coal Mines out of work and destroy the industry, and now probably wonders how in the hell she lost Pennsylvania.

Brilliant strategy, that.

"We Are Going To Put A Lot Of Coal Miners & Coal Companies Out Of Business" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksIXqxpQNt0)

Telling them there's some future utopia of clean energy jobs (e.g. Solyndra) doesn't pay their mortgage next month, now does it? It was boldly stupid.

Genuine question: with your odd capitalization of 'Coal Mines,' are you posting from the U.S.?

Also, can you not see how PP addressed what you're talking about? Wanting to support infrastructure efforts as Obama attempted? Why can you not begin to address anything of substance?

No matter what she did, it wouldn't be enough for you unless she spent 24/7 out there protesting the protests, so I guess by your own definition you are gas lighting us supposed gas lighters. This is getting confusing.

It's not about misogyny; it's about jobs and having enough money to pay bills and support one's family.

Well people aren't going to be able to do that if they don't have skills to offer. Our world has changed and these people's skill sets are obsolete. They didn't keep up with technology.

So you're saying what? Just screw them?

The free trade deals and insistence on unimpeded globalism could've been paired with an eye toward looking out for those who would be hurt.

Maybe place a higher value on training and/or being willing to leave their one-horse company town. Yes, we make a good living here, but neither of us could have done that in the towns we were raised in. It's not the government's job to prop you up because nobody wants the product your plant was selling.

Okay, so you're already Republicans. Fair enough.

So then why do the Trump voters want a free job handout??

The Trump voters I know are wealthy retirees. They don't want any free handouts, they're tired of everyone else who does.

And I'll just add that both of my grandfathers died from lung problems connected to their time in the coal mines. Working in the coal mines was HARD and both of my grandfathers developed habits from it that were difficult on their families. They also saw lots of good men die from getting trapped down there and from explosions.

Getting more people to work in coal mines is also not a great solution imho.

Also, let's be clear: Clinton wasn't talking about personally WANTING to put the coal industry out of business. She was just recognizing reality: in saying that a lot of coal miners were going to lose their jobs, she was just recognizing the reality that coal isn't relied on for energy the way it was 40 years ago because people are relying more on natural gas and renewable sources of energy. SHE MADE THAT COMMENT ONLY FOR THE POINT THAT THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN! Her next statement was: "We're going to make it clear that we don't want to forget those people. Those people labored in those mines for generations, losing their health, often losing their lives to turn on our lights and power our factories. Now we've got to move away from coal and all the other fossil fuels, but I don't want to move away from the people who did the best they could to produce the energy that we relied on." And she had a $30 billion dollar plan for job training, infrastructure building, and small business building investment concentrating specifically in coal areas and Appalachia.

So with all due respect, if you think Clinton intended to abandon these people, I don't think your news sources were giving you the right information.

Cool story, bro.

Here is an example: If you are not on their side, the Dems will offer you no sympathy. You have no value to them.

you don't get it. i can't sympathize with someone who voted for someone who stands for racism, xenophobia, homophobia, etc. you have voted for someone who doesn't believe in the things I think "make america great" - like the first amendment, diversity, etc. why am I not allowed to say that i'm not good with that? why do you think it's manipulative to express my viewpoint? i really feel like this country has elected someone not unlike hitler and it's horrifying to me that so many of my fellow americans voted for him. would you offer sympathy to someone who supported hitler? that's how it feels to me and that's why I can't offer sympathy.

No. I didn't vote for Trump. I would never have voted for Trump.

Why should I keep listening to you when you assume things about me and then condemn me for them?

How much more do you want to lose elections? I feel like you want to lose many more.

Are these Hilary die-hards just people who are masochists?

No. YOU don't get it. You want to believe that a vote that doesn't agree with yours automatically makes someone worth demonizing. They're not all racists, xenophobes or homophobes just because they don't prioritize the same way that you do. People lead complex lives and yet electoral decisions ultimately come down to winner take all. You're bitter and want to lash out, but it won't help you learn from your side's mistakes. They didn't agree with you. They don't like her. Many of them don't like him either, they just dislike him less.

Keep trying to paint them into a box and you'll keep losing.

Well obviously not all if they want more government handouts. Too bad you are on the same side as the people actually getting the most government handouts. Look we give 75% of our money from NOVA to the red part of VA. It is a similar story at the federal level. They get at least one senator representative and many congressional representatives. They have more than enough representation and more than enough government handouts. The reason the republicans won is because people still haven't come to the realization that it is actually white people who get the most governmental assistance.

Blah blah blah. Meanwhile fascist Trump has announced plans to make the fascist Bannon his chief domestic policy sdvisor.

People who care about the future of this country should rise up in opposition to this decision.

You and others on the right do the exact same thing you are demonizing. You totally put down and dismiss Liberals. You need to practice what you preach or you're a total hypocrite. I agree with the PP, if you vote for a racist misogynist, you agree with the content of their message and you are one too.

Let them paint everyone into a box and keep losing....I mean most people facing a loss like this might try to listen to other side and see where the democrats message missed the mark. Here folks just lash out and continue no holds bar spewing of "you are fascist, misogynist, bigot etc". While I'd like to see country come together if the segment of the left continues to keep blinders on, ignore valid reasons people voted for Trump and continue the rhetoric that lost them the election so be it. More wins to come for conservative values!

It is gaslighting when you say "I want an apology" and you get it (acceptance speech + visiting White house graciously) and then you say "nope... that isn't enough! you should have done something else or something different." Its gaslighting because you know that no matter what you will never get over it.

You do not understand the words "apology" or "gas lighting"

Gaslighting: manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity

The right says "I want secure boarders and for everyone to obey the law"
The left says "you are racist! You are a xenophobe!" ( riot, burn stuff, smash other peoples private property) "if you (the right) showed me some understanding and feel my pain I will stop burning stuff and stop hating you!"
The right thinks Am I crazy? I'm not a racist?
The right says "Lets work this out.... you know we can keep the good stuff in Obama care... Maybe we not need to build a wall..."
The left says "I can't be your friend on facebook and I can never talk to you again"
The right thinks Am I crazy? I thought they said hey wanted me to be aware of their pain and understand them.

I think the OP understands gaslighting

Nice try, but no. Being accused of racism is not gaslighting.

In the spirit of attempting to communicate with the other side. In my head this conversation goes:

The right says "I want secure boarders and for everyone to obey the law. Illegal immigrants are ruthless rapists and murderers, mexicans and muslims especially. We need to build a wall to keep mexicans out and start a registry of all muslims so we can track their every movement!"
The left says "you are racist! You are a xenophobe!" (left protests, a small portion of which are violent but the vast majority of which are peaceful) "if you (the right) showed me some understanding and feel my pain I will stop hating you!"
The right thinks Am I crazy? I'm not a racist?
The right says "Lets work this out.... you know we can keep the good stuff in Obama care... Maybe we not need to build a wall..."
The left says "You can't tell me to not be afraid of you because you're not going to do exactly what you said you would do. That is the actual definition of gaslighting!"
The right says "It won't be so bad, stop whining and come together. We accepted Obama!"
The left says "But Obama didn't go around insulting the entire country for a year and half before being elected! And you didn't actually accept him you emboldened your congress to obstruct him at almost every turn!"
The right says "god you whiny little millenials who got too many participation trophies growing up need to just stop being so dramatic! You lost! Accept it!

The left says "I can't be your friend on facebook and I can never talk to you again"
The right thinks Am I crazy? I thought they said hey wanted me to be aware of their pain and understand them.
