How LONG Until Immigrants Get Welfare?

HilllRy wants to pave a path so the illegals can become citizens, but of course most of they will eventually require taxpayer-funded support. So if we are to bend the rules, ignore the fact that they broke the rules, and allow them to become citizens, I think it's only fair that we should have a requirement that they must be self-sufficient. I've heard there's a five-year wait for legal immigrants, so we can't reward illegals by giving them the same wait. I'd say....10 years. Thoughts?

Educated, self-sufficient, and law-abiding legal immigrants are always welcome in this country. I am speaking of ILLEGAL immigrants.

My parents were uneducated, poor legal immigrants, and at times were on food stamps. They have now paid more into the system than they get back. I have also paid waaay more into the system earning six figures a year in the past 10 yrs than I will ever get back; same for my sibling. You are quite ignorant.

1. Undocumented immigrants do not have access to welfare and food stamps. Never have, never will.

2. Legal immigrants have to be here for 5 years to qualify.

3. Undocumented immigrants almost all pay payroll taxes. Thus they pay to fund benefits for US citizens.

4. Almost every economist who has looked at this has concluded that immigrants are a net plus to the US economy and the treasury.

5. Since 2009, the number of undocumented immigrants from Mexico has decreased.

http://money.cnn.com/2014/11/20/news/economy/immigration-myths/

Hold on. What do you mean they have to pay payroll taxes? I thought it was against the law to hire illegals in the first place.

Well then we need to crack down on the employers who are ignoring the law. They're obviously doing it for the cheap labor, and costing an American a job.
If employers believe or pretend to believe that they are legal, they withhold taxes for a phony Social Security number

If they are paying actual wages, filing w2, they have to be paying at least minimum wage.

What you are saying is that no American wants a job that only pays minimum wage. If that's the case, then this is one of the reasons why illegal immigrants come to this country - because American citizens don't want to work minimum wage jobs. Therefore, illegals aren't taking away jobs from Americans since they don't seem to want those jobs to begin with. I'm just expanding on your logic.

Most of the people who frequent this site seem to not care about illegal immigration.

OP. That's because the majority are liberals. Illegal immigration isn't high on their radar. But I'm concerned that when Hillary wins (probably), she will find a way to "convert" the 10 million illegals to citizenship before the mid-terms in order to win the Congress. At the same time, we are already in $20 trillion od debt, and we simply cannot afford to support the illegals and drive the debt up even further. We are on a path to failure as it is, and this will only hasten

You mean like Reagan did?

I suppose that's what the PP meant and Reagan was a charming guy who happened to have Alzheimers and came from a CA perspective. Remember CA did the water from the North to the South? CA water problems have created our low flush toilets!

So a charming guy with Alzheimers saw many undocumented Mexicans in the LA /SOCAL areas. Amnesty opened a flood. Not a 1 shot deal.

And yet, Trump seems to idolize Reagan on so many levels. Reagan also started NAFTA btw.

Read what you or the PP wrote, in bolded -- "educated, self sufficient" -- those seem to the only types of immigrants that PP or you want. My point is that a there are lots of uneducated legal immigrants that end up paying more into the system eventually.

There are always exceptions, and I know people who immigrated here legally and are now successful. But the majority of immigrants are on federal government assistance programs, whereas only a third of native-born are. So immigrants can come in, but they cannot expect to immediately be supported by tax-paying Americans. It drives up more of a burden on the already suffering middle class. Sorry, but while immigrants are welcome, they need to be self-supporting. We are already $20 trillion in debt and cannot afford to bring in people who are dependent on government resources (unless refugees ....politicsl assylum,,,,that type of thing.)

We want LEGAL immigrants. Education can come with time. L-E-G-A-L. Controlled immigration. When you flood a nation with tons of uneducated illegal immigrants, you are simply bringing there here. And then here becomes there. Get it?

This discussion is once again showing that liberals cannot distinguish between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigrants. The OP was clearly talking about the people who broke the law to sneak in, and was questioning how long it would be before they got all the various entitlements. Somehow, the thread has derailed to start talking about legal immigrants.

ILLEGALS are entitled to absolutely nothing as far as I am concerned. If Hillary wants to make them citizens (for the votes), they should be thankful for the amnesty. They certainly shouldn't start demanding all sorts of subsidies on top of that. Again, ILLEGALS!

sure, I get it.. but that's not what that PP or you wrote. Hence my response. Write what you mean, be clear, then we won't have this back/forth, kind of like Trump and how his surrogates are always having to clarify what he meant, though sometimes he refutes what they are trying to clarify.

I believe when people get green cards they do have to show they are either self sufficient, or they have family members that can shoulder the financial burden. I would think they would apply that same standard to illegals converting. I think they look at whether you've been a law abiding citizen, how long you've been here, and whether you've been working for x number of years.

There will still be back and forth. Because bleeding heart liberals have no problem bringing in refugees and allowing illegals here when we have our own mouths to support and feed, as well as military veterans deserving of care.

The get it, trust me. That's why they use the word 'undocumented' - it sounds so much 'prettier'.

My parents were poor Americans who never received the benefits your parents received and paid taxes to support your parents. I now make more money than you do but do not pat myself on the back saying my parents laid for your parents food stamps or I have paid much more into the system than you. Stop playing the poor immigrant card. It makes you fatuous. .

That's great for your parents that they never had to receive benefits, but some Americans have received benefits, and we as taxpayers have footed their bill, too, and continue to do so.

I bet when your poor parents or their poor parents immigrated to this country, there was a segment of the population who didn't want them here, thought them lowly, uneducated, filthy, or taking jobs away from Americans. Not really different to today.

Stop playing the "my parents did it and so can your's" card. It makes you disingenuous.
