How LONG Until Immigrants Get Welfare?

How long do immigrants in this country have to wait until they get their hands on all the goodies - free medical, food stamps, welfare, subsidized housing, and so forth? Its an important question since the majority of them are on government assistance.
HilllRy wants to pave a path so the illegals can become citizens, but of course most of they will eventually require taxpayer-funded support. So if we are to bend the rules, ignore the fact that they broke the rules, and allow them to become citizens, I think it's only fair that we should have a requirement that they must be self-sufficient. I've heard there's a five-year wait for legal immigrants, so we can't reward illegals by giving them the same wait. I'd say....10 years. Thoughts? Educated, self-sufficient, and law-abiding legal immigrants are always welcome in this country. | Many of the illegal aliens are first helped by charities, many of which get their funding through government grants. Churches, foundations, and private groups also provide help, often with some government funding. So illegal aliens may not initially receive government assistance directly but still receive it. For example, I work with a group in Arkington which helps resettle refugees, and it is mostly government funded. We refer the refugees to an assortment of programs provided by the other entities. This is a stop gap aid until they are eligible for direct government help |

OP here. That's fine. People can voluntarily donate to help them. But at what point are taxpayers required to provide the help? That's what I'm trying to figure out. |

OP. That's because the majority are liberals. Illegal immigration isn't high on their radar. But I'm concerned that when Hillary wins (probably), she will find a way to "convert" the 10 million illegals to citizenship before the mid-terms in order to win the Congress. At the same time, we are already in $20 trillion od debt, and we simply cannot afford to support the illegals and drive the debt up even further. It's immediate. Once you're in the school system, services have kicked in - free/reduced meals, medical assistance (especially if the school nurse detects an issue), wrap around services, etc. Schools have become social programs. People who don't live in areas with low-performing schools don't realize this, however, as the high-flying schools don't usually absorb these new arrivals. |
