IME sorry, but no. I had lower #s at all 3 of those last year & never got a call. |
You'll get in. The wait list moved about 30 spots each of the last two years. However, it will likely be late in the summer that you get a spot. We're at Janney PK this year and it's been incredible. I really can't imagine it being any better (and we've had children at several top DC preschools). I don't know of any parent who doesn't feel the same. We all feel very fortunate to have our kids there. |

This is for PreS:
Tyler Elementary School (Spanish) NO YES 134 No Preference Bancroft Elementary School NO YES 190 No Preference Powell Dual Language NO YES 86 No Preference Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School NO YES 70 No Preference J.O. Wilson Elementary School YES NO No Preference Maury Elementary School NO YES 5 In-Boundary So we're in at JO Wilson and stand a great chance at Maury. Really want Spanish immersion so likely going charter. |
| Wow, I'm surprised you'd give up Maury for anything if you got it. |
I don't know for MR, but probably no shot for Cleveland. We were 8 or 9 last year and never got in. |
They are inbounds, so they can always go later. |
Maury isn't for everyone. I find it to be more and more homogeneous these days. We are inbounds for Maury but my kids simply don't fit in, because they have special needs. They are actually proficient and beyond proficient, but they do require a learning environment that is flexible. I don't think Maury has that, nor are they willing to adjust, even if it is for inbound kids. |

Starting to wonder about the wisdom of counting on certain school lists to move based on previous years' results.
Example: we are in at Barnard for PK4 and were plugging in the numbers of others admitted there just to see what options we all had and vast majority had Barnard as their only choice in the lottery. In other words, in boundary, no intention of doing anything other than Barnard. Those slots are not going to open up, no way. Time consuming process, but kind of eye opening. |
Same story for Hyde-Add. Those who got seats are almost all IB kids with siblings and folk who had Hyde-Add. as their 1st preference. Can't see this moving much unless: (a) they add a second PK class (there has been some talk of this); or (b) people have charter school applications in that that would prefer. |
Stay in touch with the school registrar. She is very helpful and could probably answer your question about K waitlist movement. |
| The wait lists at Payne and Miner are both over 70. Most of the kids who got in are in boundary. I'm really starting to this Eliot Hine and Eastern could be good, but my kids might be too old to take advantage of the changes. |
Not the PP who said this, but we are another IB family at Janney that got in that may or may not take it. It is not an issue with the school, we have an older child there and are very happy with it. It is more whether it is right to move my child from her current school and we are IB so will be going there for K regardless. The cost savings and convenience of only having one school are a huge pull in the direction of attending but I am trying to think about what is best for her. Agree that the waitlist has moved a lot ever since they added a third pre-K class, everyone I know eventually got called off the waitlist in the past two years. Back when it was two classes there was very little movement, and we never got off the waitlist the first time around with a low number. |
| We are 8th on the wait list for Lafayette Pre-k. Anyone know what our chances are? |
You will get in. We were over 10 last year and got called at the begininng of April. Don't worry about it. |
