Not sure if there would be movement in Cleveland Dual Language PS because of the in bounds (Typically from the public housing complex) and sibling prference. I would think the the only person who might not take the spot is oob with prox, maybe. Good luck though. |
I'd guess that you'll get in to Langley. We're in (also in boundary) and Langley is really our back-up school. If we get a place at a charter we'll give up the spot at Langley. I know several other in-bound families who feel the same way. That said, it's newly renovated, the PTA is active and the principal seems pretty dedicated so not a bad choice for a neighborhood school. |
Those of you way up-thread with fairly low numbers for West--we got in for PS but won't be accepting, so I can guarantee you that the list will be moving by at least one spot. We have the option of keeping our child in daycare through pre-K and while it would nice not to pay for the next two years, I just don't think we can trade a known good thing for something that would likely have us playing this game all over again in two or three years.

| Does anyone have an opinion on HD Cooke wait list moving? It was our #1 choice and we're in the 30s on the wait list. Can it move that far? |
| To 15:03, I don't understand the rationale, since you'll have to switch schools in two years even if you stay in your daycare. Also, was West low on your preference list in lottery? |
| We are #13 on the Waitlist for Peabody for K. We have really high numbers everywhere else. Does anyone know how much the waiting list has moved in previous years? |
Not sure about this year, but last year, there were PS slots open in the city. That they aren't in schools to which you wish to send your child doesn't entitle you to a tax credit. Plus, from your post, it is apparent that you view PS and Pre K as city-paid daycare. PS and PK are not a right, and certainly not in the school of your choice. |
I don't want to switch twice in two years. Our daycare has a fantastic PS/PK program, our child loves it there, we have a baby arriving around the same time he'd be switching schools, so it seems like a lot of unnecessary upheaval. If we'd gotten into somewhere where we knew for sure we'd keep him at least into mid-elementary school or preferably later, then we'd take the spot. But I'm not excited enough about West vs. our current option to move him just for the sake of not paying for daycare for two years. West was our #6 option and one I sort of threw in there. I'm not disparaging West, just saying that it is not a long-term solution for us and we're not looking for short-term options. |
Our DC was 34 last year, and we got the phone call two weeks into the school year. There was some subsequent wait list movement, but not a lot. The "OOB with sibling" wait list seems similar to last year, and many of those parents are likely to take the spot. |
My friend's son is a in first now. But when they were doing the lottery their DS was going into K. I believe their DS had an excellent number like 6 or 7 for K and they never got a Call. I suspect they didn't follow up with the school. |
Why are IB students being waitlisted if they have IB preference in the lottery? Were no OOB students accepted? |
Correct - Hyde has an intake of 1 PreK class and there are more IB's students than spaces available. This is a major shift in population from just 3 years ago. |
Peabody moves a lot. We got in OOB prek last year and aren't returning. |
Thank you so much for your comments! Shepherd does feed into deal and further to Wilson, so that was also part of why we'd want Shepherd. Unless all that changes of course. At this time with the numbers we have, pretty much anything could happen. I will take your suggestion and call them all one by one in order to assess our chances. If we'd get our oldest in first (she has the best numbers), at least our youngest will have sibling preference. |
Wow, good to know. Thanks. |
