I know what it is like to have a misfit house in the neighborhood, and it can be comical.

Some PP's, when you start going off on certain things, it rubs me the wrong way and you come across as really pissed off. This tells me you have failed in so many ways. More ways than I can imagine. I guess McMansion is one of those ways. So what if my friend lives in a big house? I would never call it a McMansion because it would make me look bad. That is all I am trying to say.

That said, I would be damned if I would pay $1m+ for an f*cked up sideways town house with no windows in Georgetown.

Call me a hypocrite.

Drunk? Or nuts?

There is a LOT more.. I'm a new poster... and cannot believe that no one has mentioned the palm trees yet. I believe they are fake, because palm trees don't grow in Potomac in the winter. Yes there are colored lights at night lie you are at Disneyland! And there is a sign that says, "Casa D'Amor"-- it is a love nest! This is all right past Congressional Country Club before you get to Potomac Village, on the right as you drive on River Road. But you can't miss it.

Yes, I can't believe I forget about the palm trees. This house is very bizarre. The house that was there before was a very cute yellow medium sized old-potomac style farmhouse. It certainly did not look anything like a tear down. They started building the big ornate gate which looked so odd around the house. The gate construction went on for well over a year and then stopped. A good amount time passed before they tore down the house and built the monster.

This one wins the prize for most bizarre and out of place but there is a new rival on the size front further up on River Road right before Potomac Village. The height makes all other buildings look like Legoland buildings. Why only have one two story great room when all rooms on each floor can be two stories? It looks like a museum not a house.

Not all of Potomac is McMansions. If you drive up Piney Meetinghouse-road to the 10-35K sq foot houses right before Glen Rd there is one old hold out with a chicken coup right in the front. I'm sure at some point someone will tear down the chicken coup and build a Piazza but until then I like seeing the chickens.

Whoever built this strange pink stoned with white roof house right on river needs to move it Miami. It looks terrible there I mean complete eye sore. Its got to be new money bc no one in their right mind would have built that with some taste. Oh and there are GIANT EAGLES on the gate to the property.

Also saw some massive homes being built out there. Huge land out there but way too far for me. If I had money I would never live out that far!

Casa De Amor is owned by Carlos Horcasitas, founder/owner of Mid-Atlantic Petroleum Properties

he started as a gas station attendant in 1976, graduated Montgomery College in 1978, went to biz school, and then started buying up gas stations in the mid-90's. He owns a bunch of gas stations a a fleet of distribution trucks. Google it.

Isn't it wonderful that someone with a vested interest in the children his there with them, rather than a paid stranger?

Anonymous wrote:This discussion is so weird. What is the point? Is it just that some people don't have taste (or what you or I think is taste)? That is hardly news. Different strokes for different folks. I always learned that the worst "bad taste" was to tease, taunt and demean someone else because of differences.
We're a forum of parents and so many of these posts mock and taunt others for their house style (eagles! pink stone! a neighborhood you don't want to live in!) or where they chose to live (a far out suburb! a close-in new construction nabe!). Guess what, bad taste abounds -- just look at this thread if you had any doubt!

Yeah well guess what...You did not see that house with the eagles did you. Its terrible and it sticks out terribly. Get off your god damn high horse and leave the conversation if you are so outraged.

I love that advocating against mocking someone's home (no matter how tacky and awful you think it is) is considered being on a "god damn high horse." Sounds like you have issues with a lot of things.
Here's a thought for when you see something that might not be to your taste: try to imagine the homeowner with the pink house, or the eagles or whatever as just the proud owner of that home. Who knows, maybe that homeowner came to this country and that is their idea of "the American dream." Why don't you just stop mocking and let them enjoy their dream. Choosing to view things this way is the definition of good taste - what you seem to do is the definition of no taste.

Thank you for this post. Can you imagine the outrage if they put out a *gasp* American flag?
