You are in serious need of psychiatric help. |
I immigrated to the US legally as a child. I come from a country that has been in a civil war for decades. But wealthy families like mine are largely insulated from it. We didn't come here fleeing violence. My dad was offered his dream job and that's why we came.
My mom has at times complained about undocumented immigrants "jumping the line" but I think it's a little ridiculous. We didn't wait in line. My grandparents were wealthy people in a country with massive income inequality and gave my parents the resources that allowed my dad to get this job offer. I also think the anger from Americans towards undocumented immigrants is fundamentally racist. If you really felt they were taking your jobs, you'd be angry at the employers that hire undocumented immigrants and steal their wages. They come here because the economic opportunities are here and frankly them doing hard jobs you don't want benefits you in numerous ways. We are all exploiting them. |
Are you really fearful that some lowly educated poor people will put you in a reservation? Oh, are you Native American? If not, then you are also to some degree an immigrant. Did you know that many immigrants from Europe were poor, and lowly educated, like Trump's mother who was a maid in Scotland? When did your ancestors come here? Were they doctors and lawyers when they came? Learn some frickin' US history in terms of what types of people came here. I'll give you a clue: "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free". |
Matthew 25:40 of the King James Version of the Bible, Jesus states "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Treating everyone with dignity and respect costs nothing. |
But many of those being targeted did follow the rules. They applied for asylum and attended all their check in appointments. They work. They pay taxes. They follow the laws. Others are simply desperate for a better life. Not what you or I consider a better life but to have the absolute basics. They deserve to live free of fear. All people do. I have a SIL who did it all legally and it took years. But she was coming to the US from the UK. She wasn’t escaping anything. It’s a totally different story. And she recognizes that and shows compassion for immigrants who weren’t as lucky. |
+1 exactly We are all human beings, we all belong on this earth. Migration is not a crime, it is a fundamental part of the human experience. Of course, national created rules about immigration. In the US, our immigration system is broken and has been for decades. Undocumented immigrants coming in is a feature, not a bug of the system. |
I'll add that our legal immigration system does not meet the needs of our economic system or our country. Native born people are not having enough babies and are not willing to work the jobs that immigrants work. It's not because of low wages. It's because those jobs are really tough. There will always be economic demand for low skilled labor and more and more as birth rates go down among all groups. And frankly, employers love the current system because keeping their workers undocumented makes it easier to exploit them. |
You are arguing for an underclass or slave labor. |
+1 Even Japan imports low skilled foreign workers. The birth rate here is declining. Gen alpha is tiny compared to Gen X. Why do you think Musk and Project 2025 are telling people to have more children? "They will not replace us". |
I have worked with a Colombian woman who would go back and visit her family regularly. She was white collar, professional level. So I'm not sure that the entire country is full of gangs and violence. It's like someone from Bed-Stuy illegally emigrating to the UK and claiming gang violence. By the way, I've had an unidentified dead body on my building stoop in NYC UWS circa mid-90s when this neighborhood was pretty sketchy. |
It doesn’t bother me at all. I welcome them. However I do think we need to fix the following:
1. Public schools - undocumented children who don’t speak English are too much for the school system. Maybe we create Spanish speaking schools? 2. Healthcare - the way our system is set up, they have no insurance and have to use the ER for everything and then don’t pay the bills. It’s a tremendous burden. Because they can’t work and get insurance, all their kids are on Medicare. Surely there’s a better way. Maybe we let undocumented immigrants purchase insurance (using their under the table wages)??? |
Medicare is for old people. Medicaid is for poor people. |
It's honestly where they come from and most people who are from farm towns or poverty level have more difficulty following laws here because in those areas there really is no law where they used to live before. Whereas then you have your educated sector where there are people I've met who have advanced degrees in their country and they are mostly here just to work and not cause trouble. |
Your POV is based on the idea that people that want to come here and stay here should be allowed to if they want to. People enter legally with visas and down the.road become citizens all the time. |
LOL, Japan does not allow massive unchecked immigration. The situations aren't even remotely the same. |
