Should I care about the undocumented immigrants in this country? I’m a little confused about it all. |
Good people care about everyone. |
Should I care about racist people who want to kick out all immigrants, including legal ones? |
Why wouldn’t you care about another person? You should care that all people are treated with respect and dignity. |
This. |
I read it as OP asking if it should bother her that undocumented people are here. Which is a different question entirely than others were answering.
Which is it OP? |
OP here.
I was at the hair salon today and another woman started talking about traffic and how people are not slowing down at crosswalks in her neighborhood. She mentioned that the police should have more of a presence and then mentioned that the police are pulling over so many undocumented people. I couldn't hear what her opinion was about it but it didn't necessarily seem positive. I've never really thought too much about it. |
Just from a pragmatic point, yes you should care about a significant percentage of the population who work and pay taxes in your country. Especially since they disproportionately work in critical industries like child and elder care, food and farming |
Start thinking about it. It's going to be a huge issue. It already is. |

My spouse is an immigrant.
We had to pay and wait a very long time, while navigating the U.S. immigration system, legally. It makes me irate that millions of others try to scam the system and cheat by jumping in line through coming here illegally. They just have to go back. |
I am the children of legal immigrants. My parents worked hard to follow all the rules and came here to fill a need for workers in which there was a shortage. They worked in healthcare their whole careers.
I understand people want to have better lives but they need to do it legally. They can't just come here expecting us to take them. I understand exceptions for refugees in specific cases but we don't have the resources for all the undocumented. There is a need for borders and allowing for the people here to have access to the resources they need. We can't help everyone. There is a huge strain for housing, healthcare, etc and native born people have trouble getting access as well. Immigration should be for those people in which we have a need for workers like farms and childcare. |
I had a referral for a tile guy who was clearly undocumented. In the space of one day, he texted me his price which went down 75% by the end of the day. As a wage earner, we all know that the more one earns, the more one pays in taxes. So these people who willingly earn so little are paying proportionately less in taxes. The so-called critical industries would pay more if there weren't people willing to underbid their services by 75%. And no, I didn't hire that tile guy. I'm willing to pay for a legal guy who can become part of my construction and building network. |
Older blonde rotund lady? |
I really do not understand how people cannot care when other people are treated cruelly.
Picture someone you care about. Now picture them in a prison cell with many others being tortured, not being fed properly. And imagine if hearing about this, your coworkers and friends laughed and joked that they were food for alligators. And what did you friend do to deserve this? Nothing beyond trying to survive. |
