Furthermore FCPS would rather continue to allow boys to compete in women sports and forgo the $292 million |
Or they can go to school in their home countries and learn in their native language. |
This is the point. If here illegally, they should not benefit from legal residents' taxes. If here legally, they chose to come here and are responsible for their own integration into society, including acquiring language skills necessary for assimilation. It should not be the responsibility of federal, state, or local governments to facilitate their assimilation when they moved here of their own volition. |
Better for society if illegal immigrants aren't supported by citizen and legal immigrant tax $$ |
This is really upsetting. I cannot afford another $1754 per year! |
ITA, Language classes for adults should be done by community colleges and charity organizations, not county taxpayers. It's not the job of schools to teach English to adults. And I doubt that English classes for children in schools are that expensive. |
Are people even asked what they support? Obviously vast majority don't want to support DEI if they only know it's coming out of their pocket and they aren't rolling in dough to the point where it's pennies for them. What exactly does DEI do? What are the jobs these people doing? With the spending per each student it's a bit misleading because it's more about influx of students (with the available spots that must have already been allocated) then it is about them being ESL, because this is a total cost of education, not just ESL education. Every new non-illegal immigrant school-child moving into the area would contribute to this cost. |
| DEI includes special needs, 504 plans, etc. |
How do you think a 5 year old can be responsible for their own integration into society? Are you that stupid? And just how many foreign languages do you speak well enough to graduate from high school or college with it? I'm guessing zero. |
No the governments and taxpayers of the countries from whence they came should be responsible for their 5 year olds integration into that country's society. |
Yeah, that's cool if we are talking about legal immigrants and usually they do take English classes in their home countries as it takes time to get approvals and they prepare. This is about people who were recruited by the various organizations working overseas in their foreign countries to encourage people to come here. They weren't prepared. And when it comes to real legit asylum seekers and refugees, they may not have resources to get this education. |
Sure but if you cut it down to legal immigrants only getting ESOL services, they would cut the cost significantly. In no universe should we be paying $142 million per year. It's outrageous. |
This. |
But they changed the names of schools to be more sensitive! Now that was a prudent and valuable use of taxpayer money. |
That 5-year old illegal is not my problem, except to the extent the County raises my taxes so he can be educated on my dime. If he's documented, he's still not my problem. His parents can teach him, or can pay for classes - they should not have immigrated with the expectation that their host country would bear the cost of raising their children beyond what native English speakers receive in the way of public education. |
