Fairfax County considers property tax hike

Read the room FCPS — no one else is getting a raise. We can’t afford to then pay for yours.

No one else has to put up with the shit teachers have to put up with.

But no one wants to admit that a huge part of the FCPS and county budget is going toward helping illegal immigrants.

FC firefighters and police got huge raises last year and are going to get their raises again this year. Teacher salaries were frozen for 5 of the last 11 years that I know of. The LEAST we could do is fund teacher raises. Like, freeze everything else. We are losing teachers every day to Prince William and Loudoun. That's property value we lose, too, when they can brag that their teacher salaries and schools and class sizes are all better than ours.

Yeah, why is this never brought up. Stop being a "sanctuary" and we can give teachers the raise they all deserve

Teacher salaries were not frozen for 5 of the last 11 years. Fcps teaxher vacancy rate is about 1%. 96% of current teachers said they are returning next year. PW class sizes are larger than Fcps. So many false statements in your post.

Helping in which way that it sucks up so much budget?

Most of it is language services but they also mention "other services." $142 million was spent last year alone on the ESOL population.

We should not be cutting fire and police services. FCPS should stop or cut back those services and make sure the teachers get their raises. Whatever they spend for adult ESOL services should also be cut. Why is FCPS even offering that?

Special education expenses are huge. The feds aren’t paying their share. The state is underfunding all education.

Yes, let's spend, spend spend on our favored causes, no matter the cost. The concept of living within our means is alien when it's a pet issue we're speaking of.

Or … they could cut staff and services too.

Whatever are you prattling on about

Not sure what your point is. IDEA puts a lot of mandates on schools and says the feds will fund a certain percentage. They provide way less than they are supposed to. Why should the schools have to make up the difference?

The VA constitution says the state is supposed to fund education and it’s shirking its duty. Why aren’t they responsible?

FCPS always asks for more than they will ever get.

FCPS is spending $200 million on the ELL population. That is exponentially more in the past 5 years than they've ever spent. Start cuts there.

Do you also say things like if you are in America you should speak English? But you also don’t want to provide resources to learn English? Maybe they should just use Duolingo like the rest of us?

Because it’s better for society if they learn English? Were you born stupid or were you dropped on your head or what?

Is DEI & Undocumented Student Support Worth $714M? Trump Admin Pulling Federal Funding, FCPS Wants You to Pay.

With FCPS staring at a $292.7 million budget shortfall, it's time we talk dollars and sense.

DEI Spending: Our Chief Equity Office has 56 full-time positions, costing about $5.76 million annually.

Undocumented Student Support: FCPS educates over 38,000 ESOL students, with estimates suggesting 75% are children of undocumented immigrants. At $19,795 per student, plus $4,643 for ESOL services, that's roughly $708 million each year.

Combined Cost: Including DEI spending, the total annual expenditure is approximately $714 million.

Your Share: Fairfax County has about 407,000 households. Dividing $714 million among them means each household would need to contribute an extra $1,754 annually.

With the Trump administration pulling federal funding due to DEI and undocumented student support, Fairfax County already plans to request funding to maintain these programs as-is, essentially deciding for you. Do you support this decision amid increasing assessments and talks of raising assessment rates?
