No, because workers are paid a market-clearing wage in a competitive market. Workers are - roughly speaking - paid the marginal value they create. Workers don't command raises when property taxes increase - they can ask, but the answer will likely be no unless the labor market is very tight. Rent is sensitive to property taxes in a way that wages are not.

No sane person would argue that they don't pay sales taxes because they're not the ones cutting a check to the Department of Tax Administration, the store is. But, alas, perhaps I'm not talking to one of those people.

Sales tax is a line item on the receipt. The store holds the tax monies in escrow. Do landlords itemize the property taxes on the rent bill?

BTW, making the topic from tax raise to immigrants does not make any sense here. If we don't like tax raise, we need to protest against it, not picking up the wars between different groups. I believe all the posts here mentioned the immigrants are trying to change people's attention from the actual tax raise. They may be the bots hired by some county board.

Well we can’t just print money. So if you want to spend more money then you need to raise taxes to pay for it unless you’re willing to make big cuts somewhere else. How else do you think we should pay for these things?

What about stopping the Covid Memorial shit? More incentives for companies to get back employees in the office? Reducing the ESL instead of canceling them? Fairfax county has a large population of immigrants. Most of them are highly educated and paying high taxes. We don’t want them to feel alienated.

A county-level DOGE which will never happen because the county loves to tax endlessly and will not admit that there is any waste. And taxpayers will continue to vote for the board and pay taxes because “tHiS iS a GrEaT cOuNtY mOvE aWaY tHeN.”

Like, I can like some parts of the county while acknowledging there is likely waste that can be cut and the working families in the county shouldn’t have to shoulder endless increases.
