Fairfax County considers property tax hike

Like, did they move stuff into trusts they use and tell the county they have nothing?? I don't have around half million in assets, so why am I paying taxes but they don't. Its an upside down exemption system

I just got my assessment and it's way up this year.

Ours as well. Up 14%.

Yup. And there’s no way I can sell for that

If you think it’s wrong, appeal it. I am tired of people complaining about their increased assessments but never the increased value of their house.

Increased value means nothing when you have to live there. It's unrealized gains tax.

If you don't pay your tax there is going to be a lien on the house. And the penalty is very steep for being late with the payment even if for 1 day. You are just spewing nonsense.

Are they asking to be DOGEd? Seriously, I do not see any improvement and my taxes are 2x what they were 10 years ago. In the meanwhile worker's salaries that our taxes pay for didn't double. Where is this money going?

I think it's just a money grab capitalizing on all the new residential construction and visible affluence of the area for no other reason other than skimming more of it. I don't see better public services than 10 years ago, transit still sucks, and schools are the same or cutting things.

RE forum has another thread on this exact topic.

Apparently, the plan to balance the budget is to cut funding to emergency services. Malicious compliance to make sure you feel their pain.

They need to stop wasting money on things like COVID memorials and look at other areas to be more efficient rather than just keep raising taxes.

But then we'd have the same un-woke street, school, park, and other names, because we didn't spend millions in tax dollars to change them, and people's feelings will be hurt by the County's insensitivity, so increasing taxes demonstrate our inclusive, equitable, awake sensibilities and is surely something which justifies continuing to vote for the Democrats on the Board of Supervisors? If, not, you know what to do when elections roll around.

Read the room FCPS — no one else is getting a raise. We can’t afford to then pay for yours.

FCPS always asks for more than they will ever get.

FCPS is spending $200 million on the ELL population. That is exponentially more in the past 5 years than they've ever spent. Start cuts there.

Is that an accurate number? If so, it’s an obscene amount of money for a single county to be spending on this. It’s a very large amount of money to spend NATIONALLY.

It was the subject of a recently deleted thread. The amount of kids who have shown up in FCPS classrooms from the border in the last four years that cannot speak a word of english is insane.
