Last season there was a ton of Indy chatter about their 2026 class being great and how they were the team to beat. Some was serious and some of it was probably from people posing as Indy supporters, but it was over the top for a team that has never won anything, and became very annoying. Then Indy had a bunch of conduct incidents from one kid in particular and the board turned against them, which made the real/fake Indy supporters even more annoying. Then Riverside won yet again. Then this stupid Pendence stuff started this year from either real or fake Indy supporters which has made any lacrosse discussion that even remotely relates to Independence unbearable. That about sums it up.

Honestly it is not the Indy team or parents doing this "pendence" thing, at least in my opinion. My educated guess it is players most likely from Riverside or perhaps Briar Woods. More unlikely, it would be players who are 2026s in the club scene that play the Indy kids at VLC? maybe.

VLC is a garbage program so it is probably them.

I agree and VLC's garbage has been slowly seeping into other programs especially in the 26 class. When posters on this forum talk about how terrible Independence is all I can think of is why are they so bad. It's a simple answer Pendence is a no good program due to the plethora of VLC players on there team. So any program attempting to hold themselves together with VLC players is doomed. So I look forward to watching the downfall of Dence with the rest of you all.

OK thanks for outing yourself "anonymous" we all now know that the "pendence" dad is the same VLC hater dad who has been posting on here for years. Dude, we all know who you are. It is sad that you are this obsessed when not even connected to either program. Maybe we need a welfare check.

False. There are many VLC haters. VLC is a dumpster fire on a sinking ship and it will have to deal with haters on this board for at least another 5 years.

If you need any further proof that this is a juvenile, I give you the above.
I do not believe "Pendence" guy is a "VLC hater dad" based on the grammar, sentence structure/syntax, punctuation, tone and attitude.

Again, this would be a player/ student from Riverside and or Briar Woods.

VEL is a great opportunity to 1) play lacrosse, 2) transition from Middle School to JV, and JV to Varsity, 3) take on a new or bigger role within your program. 4) continue to work on your overall individual & team development. 5) create a bond with your teammates. 6) have fun and compete. Wins/Loses don't count towards anything in VEL, but you take back what your learning, seeing in these games and work on them this off-season to be a better team in the Spring.

We've been lucky for 13+ years that we have this consistent and affordable league each and every season for all the programs and players in this area.

Yes all of this.

Others find additional value in evaluating teams and players. Thank you for your opinion.

You can't tell much about a team when teams are incomplete, but good point about evaluating players. any particular players who made good showings?

with the caveat that nobody has their full roster in the fall, three teams that beat expectations in week 1 are Indy, Langley, and Battlefield - any noteworthy personal performances on those teams?

You would be wrong. You can tell much about a team and as ONE example:
While teams may not have their full complement of players each week or even all fall, they are not just bringing guys in off the streets. While some of the kids would be 2nd or 3rd stringers or players brought up from the spring JV team they are not going to be pure green non-lacrosse players.
This would be a direct reflection on the depth of a team. It is a sport where people do and often get hurt, this is an important factor in evaluating a "team"- DEPTH. If you do not think you can tell much about a "team" by the depth they have you are very mistaken.

The coach fielded the team but knew what he had in total. He was comfortable enough that he designated them to be in the top (Black) division. Even in spring kids get hurt, they get in a funk, they have grade/family problems. Depth helps and seeing how deep a team can field is important when evaluating them.

I watched Langley/Yorktown. Langley's top FOGO did not play but their other FOGO did a nice job and won the majority of the faceoffs. Yorktown tried a number of different guys at the X including at least one pole but they had less success. Langley's close D seemed to be missing the big #1 but the other guys did a good job limiting Yorktown's offense in settled situations. Yorktown will need to figure out who is running the show on offense without #7 there any more. Yorktown's close D looked pretty good against Langley's attack (typical athletic and aggressive Yorktown D), but overcommitted on the outside a couple times and got beat with late or no slides. Langley's goalie play was better, especially in the first half with Langley's veteran goalie in. One Langley middie had at least three goals and looked good. No one is wearing their in season numbers so it is hard to tell who's who, but maybe #12.

Was surprised to see Battlefield put up so many goals on Robinson. Did anyone catch that one?

Op here and we are now scheduled for Week 2:
Battlefield v BI
Madison v PVI
Robinson v Yorktown
Independence v Langley

Still thinking of how to really apply the running clock and 2 half structure, so +/- is a better feel for me then final score.
Picks:

Battlefield over BI (+3) 10-7- Bobcats stepped up and got a nice win v. Robinson. BI lost big to PVI, but that was not unexpected.

PVI over Madison (+5) 10-5- PVI took care of business last week and expect them to do the same each week in VEL. Madison was much too close to Indy. A long slow slide from their past state championship? They just don't have the ability to stay with a private any longer.

Robinson over Yorktown (+5) 10-5- Robinson finds themselves with a loss for the first time in over a year and expect them to respond. Yorktown laid an egg v Langley and expect it to continue this week.

Independence v Langley- off the board. Not making a pick as I don't care and not to care to read troll comments.

Power Rankings week 1:
1) PVI
2) Battlefield
3) Robinson
4) Langley
5) Madison
6) BI
7) Yorktown
Again, not including the team from Ashburn. Don't want to feed the trolls and will continue not feeding them until they quit disturbing the thread.

Great post. Keep it comming. I think Madison will see a down year this year after losing their three best players to graduation. Their performance against PVI will be an early if not perfect indication how the season will go.

One big question which we will get and answer to this weekend is has Madison goaltending improved? This was a weakness last year.

Also it’s my understanding that both Yorktown and Robinson got hit pretty hard by graduation as well. Is this Langley’s year?

This is definitely Langley year, they got the most returning guys #7, #8, #12, #6, #4, #1, #24, #16, #30 and plenty more. They should have a pretty easy path to states if Yorktown and Madison are both down from graduation.

People have been hyping Langley for the last couple years but they haven't won their own district, much less region or states, in a long time. They bring back one big scorer and their FOGO. They also return their goalie and most of their D, athough that wasn't really their strong point last year. Lost a lot of goal scoring (2 attack and 2 middies) so younger guys will have to step up. They could be decent but way too early to say it is their year. Saying they have an easy path to states is just silly.

Madison will be fine. They have plenty returning on both sides topped off by 2 CNU senior commits. They are a state title contender in football as is BF and have kids not showing up for VEL. Langley has the most complete team with their fall roster. As always, VEL and Fall Brawl are good for reps but TSO is usually the best indicator for spring season once all kids are done with fall sports and get a full day of full field lax.

Agree - Langley has some great players (#7 and #8 for example) but it is too early to say that anybody has an easy path to anything, especially a team that historically comes up short.

Since you won't I will, Langley is going to kill this team. As many of you have pointed out Langley is not missing many guys in VEL. If they continue to have most of their team they will slaughter this Pendence team. Dence is not going to keep up, they have 2-3 really solid players but by in large they don't play well with the rest of their team. So you heard it here first Ence will get embarrassed this week by the Saxons

Please stop you to not add anything here and just have a disorder.

OP here- I specifically left Independence out of the above recap, as I previously stated. I have no love or hate for the program and only want to promote discussion and positive debate about a good teams (all of the Black teams are), a good league (VEL) and sport we all find interesting.
I decided that I will not post about Indy, until the person above stops the hate for one program, refers to them by Independence or the school accepted Indy and just clogging of the thread with obnoxious comments. I will not include and Indy or their opponent info until a week has past without this behavior on the thread.

Also, I went ahead and made a report to the mods on this board to ask them to kindly prevent this person from continuing. I really don't expect them to do much but pray they do something.

If nothing is done by the mods and this behavior continues, I will need to evaluate any time I spend posting this and other content.

I find it very sad that one person, most likely a child, can ruin something that many can enjoy.

HAHAHA Wow. Would not disciplining players who act with no class, and take cheap shots at other teams, be classified as childish behavior? Because that's what the Independence program does. Until things start to change in that program, other people and posters will not respect the Tigers. Respect is something that is earned by doing things the right way. Most of the area, due to the actions of their coaching staff and administration, look at Independence as a joke and descrace to high school sports. Because of that, they are treated as a joke on this forum.

This thread is not about the Independence program. This is not about class, cheap shots, or changing the Indy program. This is not about criticizing one program.
If you would like to start a thread to that effect be my guest.

This thread is about he VEL Black division for 2024. While that includes Indy that is not the sole focus.
IF you truly feel that they are a disreputable program and childish, why does that give you the right to act the same. Be bigger person.

Yes, if you are the "pendence" person, I do hope the mods take action here.
If you are not, you spoke your peace and now take your ax to grind elsewhere.
