Elderly woman died after carjacking near WHC in NW this afternoon, SUV crashed

Felony murder:

GOOD.

I was expecting a worse crash. I wonder if the daughter had already unbuckled the mom. My mom probably wouldn’t be able to rebuckle herself due to her arthritis, especially if panicked in a moving car.

Any story on what's up with Kayla Brown, the perp? Was she at WHC as a patient, or just a criminal laying in wait?

The arrested driver is a 22 year old who was at the hospital and “walked away from her family.” Sounds like she may have been the patient, maybe in crisis (mental, drugs?). The “elderly” woman was only 55 years old!

55 years old but needing a wheelchair and was brought to the ER entrance so not some routine appt, it was an ER visit.

I love the constant speculation that only and always tried to find a way to absolve this person of responsibility. Why not just wait for and rely on the facts?

This carjacker was a woman.

Then I hope she is prosecuted for murder.

+1 That’s totally felony murder.

It's not a law school exam. Prosecutors are free to down-charge it as is the norm in DC carjackings.

Even prosecutors im DC are starting to realize there's a problem.

No, they’re not.

Yes, speculating about whether she was the patient or not and why she would do this. But she was at the hospital with her family. She wasn't just out casing the neighborhood for a car to steal.

Yes, obviously she was in bad shape. It's just jarring to see she was 55 years old given the headline about an "elderly woman."

There's a lot of crime, including carjackings and shootings, around the hospitals, Medstar and Children's. We only see doctors at satellite offices now.

Wow 55 is elderly now. I'm going to be 50, and have a 10 year old!

I’m sure that the dude that stole ambulance from there was also not there looking to steal an ambulance. But he did anyway. The thing about criminals is that they don’t stop being criminals just because they’re at the hospital.

I am elderly now and I don't know how I got on this message board. Where's the damn clicker to change the channel to the Matlock board?
