I agree. And now there is precedence so hopefully the parents can also be charged. this nation needs a few cases to scare the pants off negligent parents to start putting in serious effort to parent their kids.

The parents should absolutely be charged!

Investigate them for abuse and neglect, sure, but there's no way to force a kid that age to go to school. You could physically pick them up and bring them if they are small enough and there's a parent who is big enough, I guess, but if a kid doesn't want to go to school and CFSA isn't moving them to a group home or something, the parents are stuck. Not saying there are good parents here--I have no idea--but throughout DC there are kids who won't go to school even though their parents would desperately like them to do so, and there are no services for those families.

Why should children be forced to go to school? The government should provide the essential services that these children need, but they need to be able to make their own choices in life. If you don't want to be trained to be a factory worker, that is your right.

One girl lived in the 500 block of Peabody St. NW if that helps. But they were never/barely at school.

I reallllly don’t think those kids were living with either parent. This situation is fairly typical. Dad was never around, mom is out doing whatever and left the kids with an older relative who is likely well meaning but physically disabled, unequipped to deal with tweens/teens, and loses track of them. The kids move in with friends or some older cousin or whatever. And the school system loses track of them. It usually happens when they’re HS age but these kids just did everything faster than most.

What makes you think there are fathers involved in these girls’ lives?

Are you saying there is a culture of this type in DC ?

It’s not just in DC! I don’t know if you’re trying to make this a gotcha question or what.

It’s not up to the children. There are a lot of carve outs for parents to pull them, though.

Why does the taxpayer need to support them cradle to grave when they are fully capable of supporting themselves, and supporting themselves by not resorting to crime? The rest of us need to work to put food on our tables, why shouldn't they?

These deadbeat dads need to know they are childish cowards for running away from their responsibilities.

People having children they don’t want and won’t take care of, leading to feral children. They were doomed from birth and now look at the never ending pain they have unleashed on this poor defenseless man and his family.

Agree - and this has to be the standard.

It is the standard for any society with any hope of existing into the future.

Otherwise, society collapses.

But it's perfectly fine for these kids to run amok traumatizing the citizens of this city? What the hell is wrong with her?

Indeed, kids that aren’t in school have such good outcomes…. Such as carjacking and murder. Kids need to go to school so the government can help them when they have absolutely sh*t parents like these girls. If they had been taken away from their negligent parents, this may have never happened.
