[/quote] I reallllly don’t think those kids were living with either parent. This situation is fairly typical. Dad was never around, mom is out doing whatever and left the kids with an older relative who is likely well meaning but physically disabled, unequipped to deal with tweens/teens, and loses track of them. The kids move in with friends or some older cousin or whatever. And the school system loses track of them. It usually happens when they’re HS age but these kids just did everything faster than most.
