Even if true — and let’s see the cite — there is a huge amount of difference between this information and that available on a typical CDS. The information, contrary to your assertion, is not therefore “out there.” |
No need to. PP asked for an example and one was provided. Other schools, like Brown, do not provide average GPA or % of class submitting rank. It happens. Not every data point is provided by every school. Posters on here can vilify a school and turn conjecture into fact. Knock yourselves out. You can access Chicago’s CDS and this thread also provides information on this year’s admissions. Not good enough? Contact admissions yourself and then get back to your cronies at DCUM. Inquiring minds want to know… |
Ok. So don’t have your kid apply. And if they apply and get in, encourage them to go somewhere else. Lots of places for you to choose from. But stop maligning the school and the kids that go there over your hangups. |
Lots of UChicago bashing |
And lots of bizarre UC apologists. |
so many people fighting about stuff they don't even care about. they feel REQUIRED to chime in even thought they dont even care and it impacts their life 0% |
Because i don’t like to see a school that my friend’s kid goes to and seem happy with getting all this random hate. If you want to talk about the difficultly of the courses, the 1/4 system, and how hard it can be - that is fair game and good perspectives for parents of prospective students. If you want to talk about the types of kids that go to school there in your experience, again worthwhile. Especially if you remember these are young adults we are talking about who do not deserve your scorn. If you want to ask about the neighborhood, safety etc, again fine. I can understand why some are worried about the campus but my friend’s kid truly is not. If you don’t like their free speech model or their core and want to caution parents against it, ok. If you want to come up with random theories based in your assumption that their CDS submission is lies, that’s just plain annoying. |
Chicago is the one with the hangup. It is the only selective university not publishing ED admit rates and percentage of class filled ED. That is not maligning the school; it is a fact. If Chicago wants to avoid the appearance of hiding something, it should not hide it. Unless, that is, it is really trying to hide something, as Columbia clearly was in not publishing a CDS (before it got caught). |
what do you care? |
Well said But remember, there are a few posters here that do nothing but hate on certain schools. It must be in their DNA to be a hater. Pick a school and I could type endlessly about how bad it is; don't stoop to the troll's level. Let them wallow around in their litter box purring away against the world. |
Brown provides ED numbers. That is what this thread is about. Brown does not provide class rank numbers. Chicago does, and that 48% is almost certainly wrong. That was the point: even the data Chicago its providing in its first ever CDS is wrong. Go head, find a private, selective school where 40% or more are reporting class rank. Johns Hopkins and Washington University are in the 20s. When Chicago (very belatedly) in a few months publishes its 2022-2023 CDS (which will still be a full year after all other schools), take a look at that class rank figure. Then get back to me. |
If you do not care about ED rates of schools and the % of class admitted ED, go to another thread, or leave the college and university discussion altogether. Plenty of applicants and their parents care — with good reason. |
No one has apologized to anyone or for anyone on this thread. Sounds like some may be seeking one from one from the school? Maybe it would help knock a few chips off a shoulders. What happened? |
You clearly don’t know what “apologist” means. Yes, there are plenty of people defending Chicago’s not sharing its ED data, or implying this is common practice amongst selective schools, when, in fact, Chicago stands alone. Downright weird. Go Chicago weekend marketing machine! |
No, I do, thanks. But it’s the level of hand wringing I don’t understand. Have you or anyone’s kid contacted admissions and asked for clarification? I mean your kids must be interested in the school to be so invested in this thread. Why not ask? That doesn’t seem an unreasonable question from a prospective student. Anyone pursue “the error” in the CDS for class rank? If ppl are so sure of this then why not get to the bottom of it…Because it’s clearly not going to happen here. It’s clear there are other schools with “holes” in their CDS but it’s the hyperfocus on Chicago that is unsettling. Go Chicago bashing machine! |
