Absolutely true!!
That was our case, he got in and he is pretty happy at UC. |

Our large public is sending absolutely top students to Chicago for ED2. These are kids who apply SCEA to HYP and get denied. A generation ago, they would have been shoo-ins at HYP. Now they go to Chicago.

which school? in DMV? |
Chicago is permanently test optional. MIT is test required. If you truly believe that the kids accepted to Chicago test optional have higher SAT scores than the kids accepted to MIT, you are unfathomably naive. Chicago is a very, very good school. It’s a great choice for full-pay students from expensive private schools or wealthy public schools who can apply ED. Trying to prove it’s the best school makes you look foolish. |
NP, I don’t think the previous poster was trying to prove “it’s the best school.” That’s a foolish comment. This is statistical information they are presenting from USNWR (and I don’t think USNWR was making the claim it’s “the best school” either). But it is data. And there are parts of this thread that seem to be data driven or at least demanding data. So like all TO schools listed it’s a good FYI reference point. |
Haha.... you remind me of a Marvel comic book villain from the 80s called Foolkiller. ![]() We are not even close to wealthy. Financial / Merit aid is covering 90% of the fees. And the stats were competitive. 1540 with a 4.8 wGPA. I really love your hat, BTW |
Same. Similar stats—and definitely NOT full pay. |
we've discussed this .. on this thread. also, if this is news: SAT/ACT averages are also for kids who submit them. |
Yup. My impression too having gone through the process w 2 DCs. For kids who would be competitive at HYP (and shoo-ins a decade ago), Chicago ED and ED2 offer a solid likelihood of acceptance. If the weather/quarter system/core is not an issue, Chicago ED/ED2 are great options. For those willing to continue to roll the dice or are put off by weather etc, RD is probably the way to go (except the likelihood is much lower and is getting worse). |
STA has 8 students accepted. |
This summarizes it well folks. |
100 percent agreed.
It is a really good and challenging school in a beautiful city. This winter was the warmest in Chicago’s history. |
And quite a few of those have much weaker GPA than those rejected ED2 ( after rejects at HYPS). It is a much less predictable group at UC from STA this year |
Great crime stats too👍 |
