Chicago is permanently test optional.

MIT is test required.

If you truly believe that the kids accepted to Chicago test optional have higher SAT scores than the kids accepted to MIT, you are unfathomably naive.

Chicago is a very, very good school. It’s a great choice for full-pay students from expensive private schools or wealthy public schools who can apply ED. Trying to prove it’s the best school makes you look foolish.

Yeah but a lot of other schools on this list were TO. A lot of Chicago kids have very high SATs including my kid who got a 1580.

It’s comprised of several different programs—ones that targets rural areas, international students, Texas and CA. Nomination by a counselor seems to be one route to be considered by sounds like there is also an application process as well. Does not mention paying for transportation costs. FYI there are other colleges if interested that offer something similar to this pre-college program.

NP. Private school DD and her friend who are current juniors were nominated for two of these programs last summer. DD’s program was completely free, including transportation. Friend’s program cost $1000 not including transportation. Both had a fantastic time, and felt that UChicago rolled out the red carpet for them. It worked, as both kids are now strongly considering applying either ED1 or ED2 in the coming admissions cycle.
