Denmark Prince Frederik scandal

I’m an Aussie who has followed and loved Princess Mary forever! This makes me so sad for her. I am truly surprised. Even if it’s innocent, what woman would be ok with their husband flying away to see a female friend and hang out alone for hours? No way….. doesn’t add up.

She looks totally spent, like she has been on this ride too many times. (Cue my Mexiposter saying that's not possible because she is an elite Mexican, whatever that is.)

She managed to bag a very rich husband once so she must have something going for her.

She was probably very beautiful when younger. Mary has aged better though. It must be a matter of personality rather than looks. Well, good luck to Mary however she decides to move forward with this embarrassment.

To think how many non-aristocratic women scheme and plot for years to bag their own royal husband (Kate and Megan) only to be tabloid fodder. I wonder if any of them would do it differently if they had a time machine.

Mary wasn’t scheming and plotting anything. It appears to have been a true fairy-tale chance meeting. Too bad Prince Charming eventually turned out to be a toad.

Felt like a real love story. Maybe that insane mother in law was the tipping point that led to estrangement. And yes, I know I sound crazy but I’ve always connected with this couple!

I would love to know more about this. I searched the stepmom and didn't come up with anything. Are you talking about her mother? She died in 1997, seven years before Frederik and Mary married, so I don't understand how that would have led to estrangement.

Perhaps PP is confusing the Danish royals with the Spanish royals. Queen Letizia of Spain certainly appears to have a strained relationship with her (seemingly very difficult) mother-in-law (King Felipe's mother Sofia).

I wonder how many more generations of relevancy these royal families have. The only time I’m aware of most European royals is when there’s a big wedding or scandal.

Sofia is jealous that her son seems to actually love his wife, unlike her unapologetic philandering embarrassment of a husband.

7, tops. The queen of Denmark read the writing on the wall a while back and stripped her younger son and his family of their royal titles. At some point only the eldest child of a monarch will get a title and everyone else will be forced to live as a (very rich) commoner with a job. Then these countries will do like the rest of the continent and abolish the monarchy by passing a law. Good-bye leeches.

Oh please. Upper class Mexican women are not saints.

No, they're not saints. They gossip like crazy, they're malicious, petty, etc. Just like anyone else. But at least in the past, they didn't do affairs unless they didn't mind supreme disapproval from the family (and gossip from all directions). I did hear of one mother who told her daughter if she was going to have affairs, that she (the mother) was cool with it as long as daughter was very discreet.

Look, I come from an aristocratic European family whose circle is also very conservative. But very conservative means discreet. It means the first rule of marriage is "do not shame your spouse in public". Not "do not cheat". This is why everyone is in a tizzy here: someone in their entourage broke the tacit agreement and now there's hell to pay.

This is hilarious. Was Prince (at the time) Charles discreet? Not at all.

I certainly hope so! Queen Margrethe is my favorite royal by far, and I have only heard good things about her, so this came as a surprise to me.

Yes they met at a bar in Sydney during the Olympics that was hosted in that city - as I recall …

I think the worst royal marriage involving a commoner is the Monaco one. Princess Charlene got herself big old bull frog.

Her other son Joachim probably would have a very different point of view for you to consider. So would her late henpecked husband Henrik.

Ironically, for probably similar reasons that Letizia and Sofia have friction. Frederik is his mother's favored child, and so is Felipe. Felipe seems to have at least avoided letting this turn him into a philandering wastrel, unlike Fred. But the same can't be said for his sisters.

I think the younger son is still a prince, it's that his children won't be princes and princesses. But mere counts and countesses. And without a royal designation. Sensible move.

Don't think Denmark will abolish monarchy. Something drastic would have to happen first. Small country with a proud cultural identity.

I think it’s all an innocent thing that the media has blown up into a false narrative

Even if it was innocent, he had to know it wouldn’t look innocent to anyone who spotted them. Why put yourself and your family in that position?
