No, they're not saints. They gossip like crazy, they're malicious, petty, etc. Just like anyone else. But at least in the past, they didn't do affairs unless they didn't mind supreme disapproval from the family (and gossip from all directions). I did hear of one mother who told her daughter if she was going to have affairs, that she (the mother) was cool with it as long as daughter was very discreet.

Look, I come from an aristocratic European family whose circle is also very conservative. But very conservative means discreet. It means the first rule of marriage is "do not shame your spouse in public". Not "do not cheat". This is why everyone is in a tizzy here: someone in their entourage broke the tacit agreement and now there's hell to pay.

Fair enough. I'm not exactly the most with-it person in the world, lol. So the consensus is, it's an affair. What an idiot, so in the open.

I'm from a similar background and I'm actually more surprised she let her guard down like this. It's totally expected for him, but to blow this up is unusual. It's the publicity that's the issue, not the affairs in and of themselves.

I would love to know more about this. I searched the stepmom and didn't come up with anything. Are you talking about her mother? She died in 1997, seven years before Frederik and Mary married, so I don't understand how that would have led to estrangement.
