What happens to PhD programs in the humanities and social sciences if schools can no longer teach anything theoretical? I'm assuming that they dry up because you can't write a PhD thesis without engaging with theoretical concepts. Conservatives may say 'fine' but grad students teaching classes for cheap is part of what makes large universities with low tuition viable

They arent banning theoretical concepts. They are requiring a clear delineation of fact vs opinion, and banning racist opinions from being taught as fact.

I look forward to a period of clumsy and random predation directed at universities which will hopefully produce a stronger species of thinker in a decade or two

Maybe we can get the Intelligent Design folks and the CRT folks in a big boat together and have them explore remote areas of the Pacific

About the best idea that’s been floated in this thread.

Public schools should not.

It is IRONIC that conservatives say they want government out of their lives, yet here they are DICTATING what is taught in school, what doctors can discuss with patients, etc.

But isn't their goal exactly that, to remove the teaching of dogma (ideology, race essentialism, etc.) from public schools? Maybe you don't recognize your own dogmas as dogmas.

No, it really isn’t. But you keep thinking Ron DeSantis is Adolf Hitler. The attempt at equivalency really is stunning and demonstrates a complete lack of situational awareness. That and a total lack of any actual understanding of history.

This is the GOP’s goal for the country. They really do want citizens to just read ‘rite and ‘rithmetic, they don’t want intelligent, informed people with critical thinking skills, they don’t want people thinking, period. They’ve got their voters - and you can see how they think as they spout off on this thread and others - as dumb and bamboozled as they want the rest of America to become.

Their goal is to instill their own dogma. They are strictly defining how western civilization and US history must be taught and mandating them as core classes

You seem confused. No one is proposing teaching creationism - or dogma of any kind - in public universities. Quite the opposite, in fact.
