+1
Exactly who are the industries clamoring for gender studies majors?

Academia and DEI.

Ah yes, theoretical physics versus theoretical gender studies.

One of these might open the door to advancement for all mankind.

The other just got offended.

1. How do the new rules affect how you'd feel about your kid going to university in FL?
2. Do you think there will be any effect on how employers view degrees from FL universities? What effect?

I was one of the people who soccer at this kind of thinking.

All states are purple. Most universities that people talk about here are in blue or blue violet communities. Gainesville is not hell on earth. Plenty of conservative Republican-dominated states and even conservative Republican-dominated boards of university trustees have found ways to nurture great universities and university cities that respect all sorts of points of view.

But, if DeSantis is really going to go in and change the state universities in an arbitrary way, without facing significant judicial constraints, then sending a kid to a state university in a place like that would be troubling. How can you trust the university to keep anything the same or make good on any promises if a governor is just going to go in and change things in a random way?

Where did you get this from? Did you bother even attempting to read the proposed bill? Of course not. Why on earth would you bother with source material. Better to rely on on tweets full of garbage and misunderstandings.

I’m in a practical field and ended up with a BS not BA but the fools making fun of humanities and such would probably be the most to benefit from them. Such ignorance.

Sounds great to me. But if you disagree, just pay for school yourself.

Abusing the tax payer is ending in Fl.

This seems like it is mainly ending ideological tests in faculty hiring and the teaching of ideology as fact to students.

So the enslavement of Africans until the Civil War is an ideology?

Nice strawman. And totally expected. You know this isn't about the teaching of history, but do go on.
DP

They why are they removing history books from the libraries?

They're not. But again - nice strawman.

No one is making fun of the humanities. I'm a humanities major. Gender studies, however, is mockable.

You are kidding, right?

We are talking about the modern GOP meaning they are coming for women.

If they take power you think women in Florida are going to college?

How stupid can you be? Wake the hell up ladies this is not a far reach. DeSantis is preparing for all kinds of stuff. He does at min 10 executive orders a day. He is replacing everyone he can with heinous humans. He will change the Florida constitution.

Seriously, not to mention science and evolution you think that will be taught? Montana is already floating that crap.

NO Florida Colleges are not safe, they will not be centers of learning. They will be shitholes of bible thumping nonsense.

I went to UF in the 1980's it was not progressive then, it has come a very long way. With Ben Sasse at the helm and DeSantis in office UF will. be nothing but crap.

You almost nailed it but forgot to throw in a nazi reference or two. Otherwise you are definitely spot on and the end is near at UF. A real dumpster fire in the making in Gainesville.

Coming for women? limiting or banning abortion is about control, not about sanctity of life

You mean like allowing men transgendering to women play in women's sports and dominate the field? this i like 5 people in the country, the issue is overblown

J. K. Rowling seems persona non grata by democrats. Why? some democrats, again, overblown

Or attacking any women that don't fall in line with progressive ideology? Stop.so it is oky for a Duggar to get an abortion but not regular people in her state?

You care about women only if they embrace your view of the world. Otherwise, you Nikki Haley them.[b] Haley is a Putin apologist. Why are you defending her?

DP, but these are all assertions. You didnt actually refute pp's points or engage with the issues. 2/5 stars

Gender studies is humanities. Someone who understood the humanities would know that.

Come off it. The GOP can’t bring itself to understand that the science behind global warming is real (“In ThE 70s YoU pReDicTeD cOoLiNg”). You’ll gut the smarter of the hard sciences next.

Religous schools can teach dogma (see creationism)that is out of the mainstream of academia.

Public schools should not.

It is IRONIC that conservatives say they want government out of their lives, yet here they are DICTATING what is taught in school, what doctors can discuss with patients, etc.

The bill isn't carefully worded. Trolls will absolutely challenge theoretical math classes just like trolls are challenging the bible if Florida school libraries. If they only want to exclude certain classes, then they should be more careful drafting laws.
