| Yes, this is the GOP goal, to have relatively uneducated masses of people that can be controlled by lies and gaslighting. It is sad to see people like you buying into it. |
| Yeah, where’s those links you promised? |
The word “university” does not even appear in that article. The Florida College System only includes what were once known as "community/junior colleges." Community colleges always have wild swings in enrollment. |
|
It doesn’t surprise me that some people are reconsidering applying to Florida schools. But this must be weighed against the recent population explosion from people moving to the state.
Florida universities tend to be overwhelmingly in-state students anyway. Many of the top in-state students are literally getting free college educations due to the low in-state tuition and Bright Futures scholarships. Florida's "shift to the right" is being wildly overblown. Since the 1990s, Florida has always had a slight lean toward the right but is still very much a purple state. |
It is not a purple state at all. It is now a hard right state and a petri dish for conservative activism. There are obviously people who love that - they're entitled to it. But there is nothing moderate or liberal-friendly about the state. |
This. 30 years ago the republican party was more educated than the democratic party. The dems were viewed as poor in terms of money, education, and skills. What caused this flip? The big push in the US education system for all kids to go to college in the 90s. It worked. College enrollment in the 80s was around 43% of all high school grads and it jumped to 60% in the 90s and has steadily climbed each year since. The more educated people became, the more they questioned their taught beliefs and realized that many things they had been taught by their parents were wrong. And that many things they had been taught in school had been whitewashed. In 2020, 59% of college grads identified as democrats while only 38% identified as republicans. The republican voter base is aging and dying. They're losing more members than they are gaining. They need the poorly educated to believe their lies and keep them elected. How do you get poorly educated when 97% of all high school grads at most schools go on to higher education and then 59% of those will identify as democrat upon college graduation? You change the whole educational institution. You can't churn out liberal-minded thinkers taught to research and factcheck when all they're fed from K-12 is right-wing propaganda. |
You get what you pay for, particularly when major parts of education are eliminated from the curriculum. |
What "major parts" are being eliminated? Be specific. |
