Nothing wrong with that but I wonder if people realize that STEM does not translate into money. Lots of science PhDs and researchers who are not wealthy. Likewise, not everyone in humanities ends up being a PhD in whatever or barista. Nowadays, few undergrad degrees (like CS, nursing) lead to a profession. Most decent paying jobs require graduate/professional degrees. |

So the enslavement of Africans until the Civil War is an ideology? |
|
It’s ending all faculty involvement in any faculty hiring. |
Reading is hard. But you might want to go and actually read the text of HB 999 to correct your misunderstanding. It’s provided on the florida Senate website in marked up form. https://m.flsenate.gov/session/bill/2023/999/billtext/filed/pdf |
| UF is a fantastic STEM school. I am sure some very ideological people will avoid it. That's okay. Being far-left is kind of like being religious in that they tend to live in insular communities and avoid having their children exposed to ideas or lifestyles that run counter to their values. |
Your own article acknowledges its very unlikely AP classes will be affected in any way. And the state of Florida already has an alternative in the form of a lot of IB schools. We still had to take the AP exams for funding reasons after we took the IB exams. The fact that the Washington post is writing this article at all is hilarious and speaks of a weird obsession with a state governor almost 1000 miles away. |
| Our kid is wrapping up the B.Sc. and considering grad school in computer science - Florida universities are off the list. |
| UF and FSU had unprecedented number of applicants this year. Maybe this new policy will help them to weed out students from north and will allow more instate students. |
The Washington Post is not just a local newspaper. |
I’m sure they won’t be missed. I have a computer engineering graduate degree from the CISE department at UF. There isn’t a single class for any of those degree programs that have anything to do with HB999. |
Do people on the right always project to this extent? |
Wrong UF alumni here Health centers are already informed of changes Parents are beyond dumb sending a kid oos to a school in Florida Ben Sasse will be president are you all insane The library’s have already removed books I was just there This is going to be a nightmare for students. Particularly women. Really smart to send your kid to Florida when Science will not be taught These are facts If DeSantis stays which he will yes he’s changing the constitution in Florida. Death penalty headed our way. If you think a college student is not having sex you are a moron More importantly who sends their kid out of state when Science is on the chopping block! |
We now know what the writing skills look like 20-25 years later for people that stumbled through a BA using smoking notes. Thanks for the demonstration! UF will be just fine. Balls and the grog house are still there after all. I too was there recently. They even have a Whole Foods on archer road. |
