I have to agree. Speed makes such a difference in your ability and time to react. All are factors. |
+1 |
| Also, stress to your kids NEVER get in a car with someone who is drinking. Kids who wouldn’t think to drive themselves get in w drunk or high friends. |
Excessive speed is also bad but you’re way off base here. |
We had this discussion today with our 13 year old. Never to early to be having these conversations. |
No, poster is exactly right. As a former prosecutor who has processed far too many crashes it makes me very angry when habitual RECKLESS drivers pooh pooh their speeding as no big deal. Driving over the speed limit in any conditions puts other drivers on the road at risk, and you’re making the decision to do it while stone cold sober so frankly I think you’re worse than someone who probably started the night planning to get home safely but after the effects of alcohol inebriation on the frontal cortex has made a terrible decision to drive. NHTSA has done studies which establish that driving distracted by digital device use is more dangerous to the other drivers on the road than driving under the influence. All the type A aggressive speeders (and likely tailgaters) who won’t put down their phone while barreling down the road are SHAMEFUL, just as drivers under the influence. Shame on all of you! |
Back off, buddy. I’m not excusing speeders and clearly there are more of them but guess what—driving under the influence makes you….more apt to speed (along with a host of other deviations from safe driving practices.) |
Wasn't the Oakton kid going more than 10mph over the speed limit? It's proportional. 25 - 25-30 30 - 30-35 40 - 40-50 50 - 50-60 55 - 55-70 65 - 65-80 |
Oakton kid was going 81 in a 35!!! |
| Speeding is one thing. A driver who is impaired cannot slow down/react in time. |
Right. 10 over isn’t that crazy. |
Dude, you clearly ARE excusing speeders. I guess that's because you are one. You need to read the prosecutor's post again and again. Maybe get your kid to read it to you and help you with your reading comprehension. Because YOU are a problem driver if you are a habitual speeder. Shame on you. DP |
You may want to rethink your math. 10 over in a 25 is 40% over the limit. 10 over in a 35 is almost 30% over the limit. If you don't think that going 40% or 30% over the speed limit is a problem, well, ... I just don't know how to respond to that. IMO we need to entirely reconsider how we license people to drive, and how we allow people to stay licensed. |
I wasn’t referring to 25 mph zone. I posted the #s above and I think 5 over in 25-30 is reasonable. Once you get to 40, then 10 over is fine. |
5 over on a 25 mph neighborhood street is not reasonable. |
