I hope not. I think there is a difference between a 17 year old and a 30 year old.

. You are legally an adult when you turn 18, not 30. If he were 18, there wouldn't even be a question. He killed someone and needs to pay for that.

So what are you bringing it up for then?

I feel terrible for the victim and his family, but you’re being inconsistent.

I am the poster of this comment and it's my first post. I was replying to the person that said they hoped he wouldn't be tried as an adult. I agree that there is a big difference between someone who is 18 and someone who is 30, but that isn't relevant. If this person is only a few months away from being 18 and he would be tried as an adult if this had happened in a few months, he should be tried as an adult now.

And the question is why?

The law accounts for some mental development during those months. Actually boys take more time to mature, beyond 18. I’m not excusing anything, just stating facts. I think a judge will decide appropriately, but I’m not rooting one way or the other.

Again, I want to say that I feel terrible for the victim and his family, and am not minimizing
The drunkard’s actions.

I am hoping people who are questioning the victim’s driving are only doing it to try and justify to themselves that something so unimaginable and terrible like this could never happen to them or their kid. Sadly that’s not the case. The victim was doing nothing wrong. It is so horrific. Hundreds turned out last night at W+L high school last night to honor the student who died. It is all just so horrible.

When you drink and drive and slam into another car, killing the other driver, it’s simply absurd to quibble about whether the other driver should have executed a (legal) u-turn right when you were barreling into the intersection while impaired. Most drivers are able to avoid accidents when something slightly unexpected presents itself on the road. That’s why we have speed limits and rules about impaired driving - so we’re alert enough and able to respond. Based on what we’ve been told, the authorities believe the surviving driver is criminally responsible for what happened.

This is so very well put.

I’m a very cautious, mature driver who recently attempted a U turn at night on Old Georgetown Rd in Bethesda. It was lawful with a break in the divider. I couldn’t complete the turn because bike lane barrier poles had been put up that made the turn now impossible. They should have a No U Turn sign but they don’t. I remember thinking how lucky I was no one came speeding along as I had to quickly back up.

Legally an adult but biologically not an adult until 25.
