Atheist bil won’t allow 3 year old nephew to receive a gift during holidays

Agree both atheists and religious people both have the potential to be rigid and annoying about gift giving etc - it sounds like your BIL is an arse. Being an atheist doesn't seem to have anything to do with it since the gifts are from Santa and not anything to do with JC!

Religious nonchristians as well? Or just atheists?

Religious non-Christians wouldn’t act like this if they married into a Christian family. No way.

Atheists don’t act this way either! I mean, I’m an atheist and if he happy for OP’s parent to give my kids at Christmas. The point is that this is a stupid generalization to try to fit a pretty unusual situation (which may not even be real).

My mom said that even though it will kill her not to have Larlo included, she’s not going to stop something she enjoys and has done for years. All the grandkids look forward to it. We have 2 new babies this year that get First Christmas ornaments from the cousins as well, they make the ornaments by hand before we eat and wrap them for the mom and dad to open. We love to look back at these memories.

Exactly right. Why should the other kids' holidays be wrecked because BIL is a rigid arse? BIL can deal with the fallout from his own kid.

No, this is why this particular atheist BIL sucks. The vast majority of us are not like this.

I agree. We know very religious people who don’t give gifts at Christmas. They are annoying too and we feel sorry for their kids. I swear sometimes it feels like they are just being cheap and don’t want to spend money! My roommate in college was a pastor’s child and they never exchanged gifts or put up a tree. Its was sad.

Actually some do. I'm not OP but my BIL is also a rigid atheist arse.

Yeah, and my religious SIL told a four-year-old she would burn in hell forever because the child spilled milk yet I would never make a statement about how Christians suck.

It’s real and awful. I am dreading this get together now. It’s usually a great event. Mt Larlo will probably blow and am hoping bil keeps his mouth closed about how Santa isn’t real. Elderly mother is going to have to be sedated.

Why would a child burn in hell because they spilled milk?

I don’t know. You will have to ask my SIL.

That’s really gross that you are choosing to focus on gift—which this child cannot participate in—instead of mailing gifts ahead of time and focusing on conversation, food, and cousin time.

Really gross.

-Christian who would never do that to my SIL’s kids who do not celebrate Christmas

You all have to contribute to a $25 gift? That’s weird too.
