Pelosi and Taiwan

This is genius. We're trying to forge a military alliance in the Pacific. China is now threatening a world war because an 82 year old women is flying to Taiwan? She's not the CIA Director or SecDef, she's an elderly speaker of the house.

The Chinese are making themselves look like fools and driving away potential allies.

And, China isn't go to war over this trip.

Yeah, Nancy Pelosi long known for playing 3D chess and having a knack for geopolitics.

I mean, they’ve suggested they will go to war over this. They’ve been waiting for an appropriate justification to settle the Taiwan issue for years, more acutely the last few years. Is that not a risk? I don’t know if they will or they won’t (and neither do you) but pretty sure if this were anyone but Pelosi the Left would be going nuts about such a unilateral provocation from a member of congress.

And to what end? You say this is “genius” because PRC are “making themselves look like fools and driving away potential allies.”

Which potential allies? Can you name one? Do they look more foolish than a Government whose same party President said it was a bad idea, then kind of retracted that invisibly amidst bouts of Covid, then the State Dept. says they can’t control where she goes? Yet she’s third in line to the Presidency? I’d be embarrassed if my country club leadership were so fumbling and disorganized.

China WILL NOT go to war. Their saber rattling is just empty noise.

Dem here, at a time when the whole world is on edge, maybe we shouldn't encourage saber rattling?

I don't care about Taiwan. I care about what is happening here. I'd rather she put her effort into a fundraiser for planned parenthood.

Why wasn't this an issue when a bunch of Republican Senators and Reps visited Taiwan last year?

A delegation of US lawmakers including Republican senators John Cornyn of Texas and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama landed in Taiwan on Tuesday in a surprise visit organised by Washington’s de facto embassy on the island.
The group boarded a US Navy C-40A plane from Manila and arrived at Taipei Songshan Airport at around 6pm, according to Taiwanese news reports.
The presence of Cornyn and Tuberville was confirmed by two sources familiar with the trip. One of those sources, who said that six lawmakers were in the travelling group, said it also included senators Mike Crapo of Idaho and Mike Lee of Utah, as well as Representative Jake Ellzey of Texas, also all Republicans.

I think we need a Federal mandatory retirement at 70. Really, between Trump, Biden, McConnell, Pelosi... We are being held hostage by a bunch of senile idiots who are there for nothing more than an ego boost while doing enormous damage to our country.

I have bolded the pertinent words for you.

This whole thing has turned into a $hitstorm because *somebody* (the White House, maybe?) leaked the fact that she planned to visit Taiwan. Had she just gone, visited, and left, there would be no craziness.
Whoever leaked the trip should be ashamed. And, should lose his/her job.

I remember when Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich went to Taiwan and everyone celebrated.

Also, Newt said Nancy should go to Taiwan and that China is bluffing.

Voted for Trump twice and fully support Pelosi going to Taiwan.

Screw that. Taiwan is an independent sovereign nation. The US is an independent sovereign nation. China does not have any right to bully, threaten or dictate to the US nor does it have any right to bully, threaten or dictate to Taiwan.

They can complain all they like but if they take any violent action against the US whatsoever we have every right to immediate violent reprisal. I say call their bluff and bluster. I bet they won't do a damn thing.

NP.
You are wrong. Taiwan (or the Republic of China to use their own language) is not an independent sovereign nation. Just because they say they are doesn’t matter. The US and the vast majority of nations that matter do not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign nation. The US recognizes Beijing as the sole leader of China.

Nope. "The United States acknowledges that Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China." The US does not say Beijing rules Taiwan. The Republic of China predates the so-called People's Republic by decades and is a sovereign nation.

It is definitely part of China. They wish they were not, and were allowed to run free (compared to the mainland...) but now that is being reined in. They are part of China, your fActs are wrong.

The legit government of China fled to Taiwan during the revolution. The insurrectionists hold the mainland and cannot be trusted. Look at how they handled Hong Kong. Promises were made and they have been completely broken. Look also how it has dealt with intellectual property and family planning. Taiwan needs US support.

Who is Pelosi again? She's not PUSA, so why is she trying to travel abroad like she is representative of our nation? This dingbat's ego is going to open up a whole can of worms we wished never got opened, now that China has all sorts of hubris. Pelosi just needs to go away.

So you think it's okay for Chonaor any country, to dictate to the US Speaker of the House of Representatives, third in line to Presidency, where they can go or not go?
I don't think so.

I guess you're the reincarnated Neville Chamberlain.
