Pelosi and Taiwan

Very dumb idea for her to visit Taiwan now. It makes zero political sense. If she goes, 100% on her personal ego.

Nancy Pelosi just wants a distraction from her husband's scandals. She's risking a very unnecessary conflict with China to achieve her own political small game. Shame on her.

Pelosi is 80+ years old, does not represent the USA, yet has such an ego she is attempting to travel to Taiwan (against the President's wishes) like she represents the country. She is an egomaniac that is going to start a massive sh!tstorm right before she going to retire.

No one said 'disappear'. I said 'go away', yes. Pelosi needs to just fade into the sunset and go away without needlessly stroking WWIII right before she's about to retire just to stroke her gigantic ego. She's doing crap outside of her job description that is going to make tons of trouble for many younger generations.

Do you not realize that she need leads a co-equal branch of government? Taiwan is our friend.

Pelosi is NOT head of state. Pelosi is NOT the Secretary of State.

Why's that hard to understand? The entire country of the US did not elect Pelosi to represent the USA. The branch of govt that Pelosi leads does not deal with matters of international diplomacy, period. She is way out of line. Why is she doing it against Biden's recommendation?

Well, Congress does declare war? Maybe that’s her point?

She’s rotten. I hope the Congressional Democrats see that this is a clear sign they need new leadership.

Legit criticism of showboating recklessness by awful politicians triggers brain-dead identity politics from others.

Nancy is free to travel wherever the hell she wants. If she wants to go to Taiwan, she should go.

But, the announcement of this pending trip well in advance of her leaving is the problem. Whoever announced it or leaked it is a flaming idiot. She should have just gone and be done with it.

Now, if she doesn't go it looks like the US is conceding to China's threats and demands. So, now, IMO.... she HAS to go.

This is what’s weird. Pelosi goes on CODELs all the time. I don’t know why this one was so widely publicized in advance.

Wow you are dumb. This is like a 2nd tier politician in China traveling with fighter jets to Puerto Rico to discuss independence from the US.

How would you feel if Chinese started landing their fighter planes in areas like Puerto Rico?

Because the PRC (Chinese Communists) now LOUDLY have old the whole world that she cannot go, therefore Pelosi now MUST go to Taiwan and must meet openly with at least some Taiwanese government officials.

If she doesn’t go, the Chinese will conclude the US backs down under political pressure - and that conclusion would make the world situation much more dangerous. To maximize chances of peace, Pelosi has to go to show the US does not respond to external political pressure from China.

Hypotheticals about things that did not actually happen now are irrelevant, though maybe politicians will choose to consider their options less publicly in future than actually happened here…

No it’s not, because Taiwan is independent from mainland China.

Dumb take.

How would the US be backing down to pressure if Pelosi didn't go?

Once again for the 10000th time. Pelosi is not the head of state. She is not in charge of international relations and diplomacy. The American public did NOT elect her. She is not the official face of the US.

Who cares if she didn't go? She doesn't represent the US. She's only going to do a job way outside the scope of her.positon because of her massive ego. Why is she pretending to be the president of the US or the secretary of state? She's doing it agisnt Biden's wishes. No one elected Pelosi in a national elections.. She needs to get back in her lane.

This 80+ year old dingbat is going to make the president's job 1000x harder and destroy the world for younger generations because of her massive ego.

Ok, genius, tell us what is US' own policy. Is it that Taiwan is part of mainland China?

LOL

Ask Biden. Even his administration did not support Pelosi's idea.

She's gone rogue and is pretending like she represents the US.

She does represent the US and she hasn’t gone rogue. She has always stood up against China.

I thought Republicans liked that? They certainly liked when Trump said he was tough on China.

You have no inside information on what she is going to discuss. There is no basis for saying she plans to discuss independence. Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States of America which has a say in what occurs on that island. Taiwan is not and never has been part of the so-called People's Republic of China. Taiwan decides who visits and who does not. Not Beijing. Does the Chinese embassy on CT Ave issue visas to Taiwan? Call them up and ask
