I'm a republican and am very pleased she went. I was worried after the threats from China she would back down. Glad she didn't

Isn’t conducting international relations the domain of the presidency?

Newt Ginrich went when he was speaker. Were you upset about it?
A bunch of GOP senators and house members went last year. Were you upset about it?

So what are your thoughts about the reps and senators that went to Russia on July 4th?

"Seven Republican senators and one GOP congresswoman have been in Russia, meeting with Russian officials, since June 30. On Tuesday, they sat down with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. "We come here realizing that we have a strained relationship, but we could have a better relationship between the U.S. and Russia," Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) told Lavrov. "We are competitors, but we don't necessarily need to be adversaries." Shelby added that he hopes the July 16 summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin "will be the beginning, maybe, of a new day.""

So you would forbid all CODELS? Do you have any idea how many there are? Tons every single congressional break. Many with MILAIR. Spouses often accompany to “nicer” destinations. Both parties are big on traveling.

Unless they have permission from the State Department to represent USA they should be considered private citizens conducting private matter.

That cat jumped out of the bag when that delegation of GOP senators visited Russia on the Fourth of July.

There’s been a long tradition of US delegations visiting Taipei. Who was Lindsey Graham representing last April?

China should be reminded that the US is no longer occupied with wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and that we can play a long game too.

Except we can’t play the long game, at all. We’re good at sound bites and political theater but we’re a paper tiger compared to China.

The US military would disagree. As would our allies in Australia and Eastern Asia.
