| Look for the Patriot attack kid to cause majors problems for Riverside tonight. I believe their d-pole is still out |
They actually tied at 9 a piece in that scrimmage. Riverside was missing UVA pole and an impact midfielder, while Robinson starting goalie, who is significantly better than any of their backups, was injured up until the Madison v Robinson game (yes, Robo beat Yorktown with backup goalie). And as someone else said, scrimmage results don't mean a whole lot as most coaches use them to evaluate guys and find out which combinations of players are working well together. That being said, I think Robinson and Riverside are pretty even and would not say one team is better than the other. That is only something the players can determine on the field during a regular season game and sadly we will not get to see that matchup this season. If only Virginia held an overall state championship between all of the state champions from each division. Maybe one day.. Would also love to see the top VA privates and top VA publics duke it out in a tournament. Privates would most likely win since they can recruit, but it would be quite entertaining none the less. |
| Tonight's Patriot/Riverside game will be interesting and Riverside could be in trouble. This is definitely not last years squad who could have scored 30 every game if they didn't just play catch during the 4th quarter. |
Patriot doesn't stand a chance. While Patriot is a solid team, Riverside is on another level and I'm guessing will win by at least 5 or 6. Even if they are missing guys, they most certainly are not in trouble tonight. |
PVI JV almost beat Riverside and Robinson in VEL PVI scrimmaged Oakton in the start of the spring. Wait to see what Riverside does v Gonzaga then let me know if you think it would be entertaining. |
Riverside may very well give up a 6 goal lead and lose to GZ in OT but it should be entertaining. |
| Riverside 12 Patriot 8 |
Haha wow, giving credit to a VEL fall game. If you think anyone's VEL team is anything like their spring team, you don't know much about lacrosse at all. And if Gonzaga doesn't beat Riverside by 10 or more something is wrong with their recruiting. Also, Gonzaga is not a Virginia team either sooo not sure why them beating Riverside has anything to do with a VA hypothetical playoff situation. |
Yorktown won this game 14-3. It was 12-0 at halftime and 13-0 after 3 quarters. Yorktown looked really good offensively, but its hard (for me) to tell how much of that was how good they are and how much of that was the competition. As a W-L parent, not too much to like about this game, but it was fun to see my kid get a goal, even if it was against kids who likely don't often see the field for Yorktown. |
Patriot led after 1 and was down by 2 going into the 4th so a tight game most of ther night. |
| Thanks to Robinson and Woodson for hosting the 3-day round-robin and to the coaches and players who participated over spring break. It was good to see all the teams playing again! |
Yep some good games and appreciate the families/players who gave up part of their spring break to participate. Tough week for teams who had to play 3 games back-to-back-to-back. Look forward to the updated "Unofficial" 6A rankings early next week as most teams head into district play! |
| Anyone have a score of the Lake Braddock/Chantilly game? |

Week 5 - 2022 VA Boys Public 6A “Unofficial” Rankings
1. Robinson (9-0) Results: Def. Colgan 19-1, Def. Chantilly 19-1, Def. Westfield 16-4 Analysis: Easy draw at the tourney leads to three commanding wins. Probably should have scheduled someone like Battlefield or Patriot or Riverside or a private over Spring Break to be more battle tested for the tournament, as there is not much value in 19-1 wins. Still, a 3.25 GAA this season having already faced Yorktown, Madison, and Oakton is impressive. Robinson may run the table, with Lake Braddock on 4/29 looking like the only potential threat. In their own league for now, with a clear path to the State tournament barring a stunning upset. Up this week: No games 2. Battlefield (7-0) Results: Def. #2 Patriot 9-6, Def. Freedom South Riding 11-2 Analysis: Regained the #2 spot with two quality wins, sending Patriot back to the #3 spot. Great goalie play and a stout defense allowing only 4.3 goals per game, despite some tough opponents who can score. Battlefield will likely hold the #2 spot until they face Patriot again at the end of the regular season. Up this week: No games 3. Patriot (3-2) Results: Lost to #3 Battlefield 9-6, Lost to Riverside 12-8 Analysis: Lost close games to two of the best teams in the state. Patriot’s opening day win against Yorktown is just enough to keep them at #3, and barring any surprises (e.g., losing the rematch with Freedom) they may hold the #3 spot until they face Battlefield again at the end of the season. Up this week: No games 4. Yorktown (5-2) Results: Def. Wakefield 16-1, Def. Washington-Liberty 13-3 Analysis: Two dominant wins against easy opponents. Despite the two losses by Patriot to top notch opponents, Yorktown stays at #4 because they lost to Patriot head-to-head. The only potential threat to Yorktown winning the rest of its games in the regular season looks to be Langley on 4/26. Up this week: No games 5. Lake Braddock (7-1) Results: Def. #6 Madison 11-6, Def. #7 Oakton 12-10, Def. Chantilly 20-7 Analysis: Great performance at the tourney. Game against Madison was closer than the final score showed, but Lake Braddock hung tough. Midfield is really strong and the defense is athletic and aggressive. Close win against Oakton was a bit surprising but the weather may have slowed things down. Up this week: No games 6. Madison (6-3) Results: Lost to #5 Lake Braddock 11-6, Def. #10 West Potomac 13-3, Def. Woodson 15-4 Analysis: Tough loss to Lake Braddock. Lake Braddock looked more athletic – Madison looked more disciplined, but Madison had too many missed scoring opportunities. Convincing wins against West Potomac and Woodson keeps Madison at the bottom of the second tier of teams. Up this week: vs. Chantilly (4/11) 7. West Potomac: (6-2) Results: Def. Westfield 10-9, Lost to #6 Madison 13-3, Def. #7 Oakton 8-7 OT Analysis: Close call against Westfield and a lopsided loss to Madison. Good bounce back win against Oakton. West Potomac and the rest of the teams on the list seem not quite as strong as the Yorktown, Lake Braddock, and Madison caliber teams, although Oakton played Lake Braddock tough. Expecting some reasonable debate and fluctuation in the 7-10 spots for the rest of the season. Up this week: at South County (4/12) 8. Freedom South Riding (5-3) Results: Def. John Champe 11-9, Lost to #2 Battlefield 11-2, Def. Stone Bridge 10-7 Analysis: Omitted from prior rankings due to editorial errors. Freedom is listed as a Class 5C team on several other sites but apparently was moved to Class 6B for the 2021-2022 season. Lost to Patriot by one goal in OT earlier this season and lost to Battlefield 13—9 in their first matchup. Definitely deserve to be in the top 10 despite the most recent lopsided loss to Battlefield. Up this week: No games 9. Langley (2-3) Results: Lost to Landon 15-4 Analysis: Played Landon close in the first half with a 6-3 score at halftime, but Landon stepped on the gas in the second half and blew the game open. You can’t punish Langley too much for taking on two private schools and coming up short. Laxnumbers and the other site that has rankings both have Langley ahead of West Potomac, and while they may be a better team, the editors here need to see two wins from Langley this coming week to justify even keeping them in the top 10. Up this week: vs. McLean (4/11), at Marshall (4/14) 10. Oakton (4-5) Results: Lost to McLean 17-16, Lost to #5 Lake Braddock 12-10, Lost to #10 West Potomac 8-7 OT Analysis: Shocking loss to McLean, giving up a surprising 17 goals. Good bounce back game against Lake Braddock, but fell just short, and a close OT loss to West Potomac. Give Oakton props for some tough scheduling, but five straight losses has Oakton hanging by a thread. With tough games against Westfield and Madison looming next week, Oakton could be poised to fall out of the top 10. Still, it seems likely that Oakton would beat West Springfield or Alexandria City, despite their better records. Those teams need to improve their scheduling to be in consideration. Up this week: at South Lakes (4/13) Others Receiving Votes: West Springfield (5-0), Alexandria City (7-1), Westfield (5-4), Chantilly (4-4), Woodson (4-4) |
| Great around up! Thanks again! (Is Riverside not 6A? I thought I read that somewhere.) |
