Masks - it’s finally happening!

Anonymous
People who are pressuring other people to unmask just want EVERYONE who hasn't had Covid to catch it. I have heard people say it - just get it over with, everyone else has. 90% of my family and extended family has not had Covid - they are still masking. It's a hard decision to risk it, unmask because even though the mandate is off, the disease is still here.

But the truth is that I could not give less of a sht what percentage where a mask or don’t as long as I don’t have to.

Most of the people still masking are either neurotic or virtue signaling, but not all of them and I don’t care enough to distinguish one from the other as long as my own beautiful smile is uncovered.

Today at the Vienna Whole Foods I saw a lady with the big mask and the plastic face shield. She is either completely neurotic or super virtue signaling because she can do pick up or delivery if she is truly sick. There is no need for that crazy.

This was my MIL a few weeks ago in Florida. Her husband had terminal cancer and was undergoing immunization treatments along with being on a ton of other medication. She was also very particular about the food she purchased for him so didn't want to do online ordering. I guess that counts as crazy? Especially since he died anyway? Maybe I'm weird but I would've looked at the Whole Foods woman and hoped her or her loved ones were okay instead of judging her as crazy/neurotic/virtue signaling. Wow.

Yeah. I hate to say it but I don’t. She can do grocery pick up. It’s ridiculous at this point. If she is thst scared and has a real reason to be that scared, there are safer ways to get groceries. It is theater.

I get thinking they are kind of annoying, but people are so weirdly excited about this, like every minute was torture. I'm sure they genuinely feel this way, but I don't get it. My mom has severe claustrophobia -- wearing a mask was genuinely difficult for her at the outset. But these people who are SO EXCITED? Was it really so awful? Are you all claustrophobic? It just didn't register in terms of hardships I've experienced in my life.

They are entitled, self-centered brats. I can’t wait until something actually terrible happens to them for once in their spoiled little lives. Here for it.

NP but this is a horrible thing to say. I bet you work from home so you wear a mask just to walk your dog through the neighborhood and go to the grocery store once a week? I wear a mask all day long and haven’t seen the faces of most people I work with in a year. So yes I’m exciting to not wear the mask anymore.

And one of the most horrific things you can imagine that I would never wish on anyone happened to my family last year. But I would never wish that experience on you, no matter how obnoxious you are.

You see their faces. You don't see their nose or mouth and anyone with common sense will continue to mask and distance from you.

You sound like a child. But I know you are just someone who sits in their basement in sweatpants all day ‘working from home’. Please continue to enjoy such a rich and full life. I’ll be out interacting with actual people.

You sound lower middle class and envious of what others have that you do not. Your claim to fame is that no one can make you wear a mask anymore. You should have worked harder in life to make something of yourself. I’ve noticed most anti-maskers are not the most successful or educated people in the world which explains a lot.

Yes. For me and my family, it really was that awful. So so happy to hear the DC school news today!

Wow, how weak that you considered a small thing like masking a true hardship.

Gavin Newsom. Stacey Abrams. Magic Johnson. Lebron James, etc. etc. all out loving life without masks even when the mandates were still in place.

N95 sure.

A cloth mask?

Sorry, but I laugh at those who deny climate change in the same way.

Tangentially, cloth masks are helpful for allergy sufferers. I discovered this last fall while doing yard work. My MAGA neighbor thought I was cuckoo but was polite enough to say nothing. So please don’t assume you know why people are masking.

Never? Not even last summer? I was going maskless then because case counts had dropped and almost everyone in the stores was mask-free. I thought we were finally turning a corner then. And then colder weather came, new variants spread, and we all ended up in masks again. *sigh*

Where I live and work, almost everyone is still wearing masks. I am very grateful I chose to continue wearing my mask last week at work as I ended up catching Covid (first time in two years right when case counts are going down...grrr...) and my mask helped reduce the odds of spreading it to all my students and co-workers. Grateful that I also require my children to wear their mask because my oldest daughter caught it as well and having spent all day in school with her mask on the day before she developed symptoms and we tested her, she could have spread it then. Hopefully, her mask limited her spread as well.

I am SO READY to not be wearing masks but I share a classroom with a pregnant teacher and with a few students who are immune compromised. I'll do what I can for now to limit my chances of spreading anything to them. I *should* be good to go now for 90 days since I've had it but no idea what's going on with his new variant.

People are so soft. What will happen when they have a real hardship? They will melt.

The case counts and deaths are higher now than last summer, yet it seems like people think Covid is over because mask mandates are lifted. Covid is worse now than last year! WTF?

DP but are you actually saying it was “theater” for this (likely elderly) woman to wear a mask to pick up groceries snd medications for her terminally ill husband?? We are talking wearing a mask, not closing grocery stores. She was not telling others to mask, she simply chose to mask herself. WHAT THE F Is WRONG WITH YOU?????

Hospitalizations and deaths are down. If cases are up, that’s a good thing, hence the lifting of restrictions. Means people are more immune to it where it’s not a threat anymore.

Cases would be way up if we tested for the common cold too, but we don’t.
