Agreed, she doesn't. However that doesn't change the fact that in this case, the hospital was the one who make a judgment call that was not in keeping with the actual legislation. The state needs to put out a very definitive statement to all Ohio hospitals so lawyers aren't inclined to go into CYA mode. |
That language is in there to give comfort to those uncomfortable with forced birth. First, nothing about the age of the woman. Is a 10 year old a woman? Last I looked it was a child. The rape or incest must have a police report, which many women don't report, let alone children. "Oh, hi police, my dad raped me and know I'm pregnant." Face it. There are two reasons this is turning out like this. A) Anti-abortionist didn't think about the reality or B) They DGAF |
That's exactly what Swalwell was doing. I guess what's good for the goose is good for the gander. |
WHAT ABOUT THE MOTHER??? WHAT ABOUT THE LIVING BREATHING HUMAN BEING WHO HAS TO BE PREGNANT FOR NINE MONTHS AND DELIVER A BABY? EVER THINK ABOUT HER??? |
I'm the PP. I read further on in the story. It makes it clear that Bopp knows the law has rape/incest as an exception, but that Bopp has conflicts about that. Doesn't matter how he feels (or how anyone feels for that matter). What matters is if the girl was entitled to an abortion in Ohio given her age/circumstance and the answer is yes. |
That seems like very informal language for a law, doesn't it? |
I’m not even going to try to dress it up. I hope this guy wraps his car around a tree and dies in a fiery blaze. |
The flaw in their logic is that if a life is a life, then it doesn't matter how the life was conceived. So, why should rape be an exemption? This is the problem with rigid thinking. It leaves no room for real life, which is often, shades of gray. -signed the former pro-lifer and a mother of two |
I’m sorry, I’ve gone blind on various threads related to the GOP hating women; did you expand on your story somewhere back? I read every page of this thread but I don’t remember every post. I’m genuinely curious about your journey. |
As I keep saying: women aren’t people in the GOP. |
If you look at the law itself in detail (I did), she was certainly eligible for an abortion under Ohio law |
Yes, because it's a freaking ARTICLE that summarizes the law, not the law itself.

DP. Can you cite to the specific statutory provision to at would have permitted her abortion under these facts? |
And thank God Bopp did not et his way, right? So clearly there was room for real life. |
