We don’t know if they’re going to stay open. If they go a full year being open with only disruptions for individual students who may need to be out for positive cases or confirmed exposures, then yes, I’d say the mission of OpenFCPS has been accomplished in terms of reopening schools. Not in terms of the recalls though. But until they go a whole year I don’t think we can say “schools are open!!!!11” yet. |
| Wtf is Praeger u? |
Is everything you write this incomprehensible? OpenFCPS parents have watched the work sessions. It's another venue where the incompetence of the School Board is on display. They spend hours demanding answers to various questions, some legitimate and most obscure, and then invariably punt when the answers aren't forthcoming. |
It’s basically videos put out by a conservative organization. No one really takes them seriously apart from very right wingers and very left wingers looking for an outrage fix. Everyone else in the middle ignores it. |
I know you guys are always being attacked but the sarcasm there was pretty obvious. Take a chill pill. |
| I’d like to see these School Board members removed from office. Then we can play around with irony and sarcasm. |
Yes let's be entirely sour and dour in our every communication. |
Clearly we need more grace! |
Thank you for finally admitting that OpenFCPS isn’t in the middle. |
So there is a poster associated with the group who posts links to conservative videos? BFD. It’s not like the Fairfax Democrats, over 100 of whose core members turned out to applaud a speaker who said “let them die” about those with different political views. |
^^^This. Amazing that the left refuses to own their extremism. |
The SB defenders are turning out to be worse then the SB itself. I worked in National Democratic politics for a decade, was a political appointee in the Obama administration and fully support the recall of the school board. Instead of telling me why the SB deserves to finish their term the first reaction from Fairfax Dems is "WELL ACTUALLY you just don't understand the issue" Or "you are being brain washed" or "You are a secret Republican". It's a moronic response and shows that they have no actual reason to support the SB other then blind partisanship. To me the hallmark of a healthy democratic party is a government that runs well and provides for it's citizens. This SB is incapable of providing that and thus I feel they should be removed. |
It's a combination. The FCDC views teachers and their organizations as among their main constituencies/donors, and there is also a knee-jerk reaction to defending SB members simply because they are Democrats who received FCDC endorsements. There is no accountability, however, for poor performance of when individual SB members take positions that otherwise are antithetical to FCDC's stated values. Tholen is a prime example of this (boundary change favoring the wealthy), as are Omeish (anti-Semitic comments, unsupportive of LBGTQ students) and Frisch (favoring a dog park over kids). Had a Republican-endorsed SB member pulled this crap the FCDC leadership would be all over them. |
| I am not a teacher and not part of the Fairfax Dems. I don’t agree with all the actions of the board members but they have not done anything to warrant a recall. I am appalled that the national right wing groups have pushed recalling school board members around the country as a way to keep up outrage and division to suit their political goals. |
I was, but am no longer, part of the Fairfax Democrats. Regardless of what happens with the recall petitions, it's great that local parents and county residents are paying attention now to the incompetence and conflicts of interest of the current School Board members. You can be a Democrat and realize that the current group is not serving us well. There were better options, but the endorsement process rewards "politically connected" candidates on the fringes of both parties. |
