FWIW, to those questioning the OpenFCPS goals - Im a Democrat, consider myself moderate, voted for tholen in the last election, and eagerly signed her recall petition. I am so tired of her duplicitous, contradictory statements and actions, her refusal to do her job, and what I consider to be her progressive stance. I know for a fact that I am not alone in OpenFCPS - there are many more like me. Sure there are Republicans too - that does not surprise nor deter me. Its actually a good thing.
If you think it’s a good thing that you’re teamed up with people who want private-school vouchers for their kids and nada for yours, your judgment is highly suspect.
The OpenFCPS folks may include some people who'd try to gut public education under any circumstances, but far more who either speak favorably about things like vouchers to try and nudge FCPS to return to the basics or never bring them up at all because they are invested entirely in the public school system.
Yeah that’s why they’re pushing a PraegerU “patriot pod” lol.
Most supporting the recall petitions would have no idea what you’re referring to here. They only know their School Board members ignore them but listen carefully to everything folks like Kimberly Adams say.
Except that is not what you these members did. It’s just the lies the right wing machine was selling and you bought.
You're not too persuasive. There are few better ways to alienate people than to tell them they are unwitting dupes. In general, the people involved with OpenFCPS are among the better informed parents in the county. But good luck leveraging your strategy as the recall petitions move forward and the 2023 elections approach.
The SB defenders are turning out to be worse then the SB itself. I worked in National Democratic politics for a decade, was a political appointee in the Obama administration and fully support the recall of the school board. Instead of telling me why the SB deserves to finish their term the first reaction from Fairfax Dems is "WELL ACTUALLY you just don't understand the issue" Or "you are being brain washed" or "You are a secret Republican". It's a moronic response and shows that they have no actual reason to support the SB other then blind partisanship. To me the hallmark of a healthy democratic party is a government that runs well and provides for it's citizens. This SB is incapable of providing that and thus I feel they should be removed.
It's a combination. The FCDC views teachers and their organizations as among their main constituencies/donors, and there is also a knee-jerk reaction to defending SB members simply because they are Democrats who received FCDC endorsements. There is no accountability, however, for poor performance of when individual SB members take positions that otherwise are antithetical to FCDC's stated values. Tholen is a prime example of this (boundary change favoring the wealthy), as are Omeish (anti-Semitic comments, unsupportive of LBGTQ students) and Frisch (favoring a dog park over kids). Had a Republican-endorsed SB member pulled this crap the FCDC leadership would be all over them.
