if I am a tax paying law abiding citizen of a civilized country, I think I can expect basic safety and basic cleanliness on the streets, which right now many people don’t have
I live in a smaller town which is pretty accessible via public transit and we get our share of the homeless. The city 40 mins away has many many more

+10000 if someone thinks more drug rehab programs or mental health counseling will fix the depth of mental problems the homeless have, they’re either very naïve or shilling their own services. The missing piece of this puzzle is institutional homes.

I am very skeptical about any politician trying to solve this problem by first removing such people off the streets (which imo needs to be done). Honesty I don’t know how this problem and the problem of the overall drastic increase in high needs population that requires countless services will be solved.

With our lifespans increasing, we are going to have a huge problem going forward with elderly individuals who are on housed as well as the mentally and physically disabled. Many are now lving well past their parents. Medicaid money for them is going to run out much sooner than later

Our society as a whole cannot keep subsidizing their care

If I had been in that subway car, I would’ve been so grateful for that man who put hands on Jordan Neely so everyone else could escape safely.

You know why? Because the Jordan Neelys of the world pose the biggest threat to ME.

This is really powerful. I always considered myself super lefty—but I can’t stand how the left is leaving actual victims aside in their laissez-afire approach to crime, drugs, homelessness.
