Or the agency to whom it was reported has not yet processed the document.

This is not surprising or anything to freak out about. The vast majority of states collect and report abortion data and have for decades. Only a handful don’t. As things are currently doesn’t mean that the individual who terminated is identified (I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes in the coming years, of course, the way things are going.) What is typically reported is the facility, patient demographics like age and marital status, gestational age, and the procedure used. This is where we get abortion statistics from.

He is trying to pull identifying data from the reports.

Oh my god, you’re still debating this? It happened! It happens across the country, probably not commonly but I’d say once is way too much. It happened and your sht bag party made it worse, is making it worse for the child, her family and the doctor who probably saved her life.

So instead of grasping at straws about why “nuh-uh this didn’t happen,” just go sit on the couch and cry over the fact that you’re making life miserable for women, on purpose. Just go sit down and be quiet and think. People like you changing your minds can stop the creeping fascism.

The president of an anti-abortion legal advocacy group told a House committee this week that abortion care for a 10-year-old girl would not be considered an abortion.

If this doesn't prove that forced birthers are about punishing women for having sex, I don't know what is.

-former religious "pro-life" person who knows it's about punishing women for having sex.

Forced birthers are stuck, now. Theyve been saying no abortions because the fetus and embryo are people with equal rights to life.

But they know they can’t deny a raped 10 year old an abortion. That is politically unpalatable.

So they have to say if the pregnancy will affect the health of the mother, ending it isn’t an abortion. It is justified, therefore it is not an abortion. Because abortions are only when you end a pregnancy for no good reason.

This line of reasoning will not, however, get them where they think it will get them… but they aren’t smart enough to see the flaws in this argument.

Like most conservatives, they are crap on the details of governing, and legislation.

If Republicans truly believe that life begins at the instant of conception, how can they also argue that a child conceived via rape is worth less than a child conceived via consensual sex (which they are now doing apparently)?

They don’t feel limited by facts or reason.

They will make up whatever random laws they want to penalize whom ever they want. Just because they feel like it. No rational arguments. No informed opinions.

Ignorant, irrational tyranny.

True, but logically Republicans have now been forced to concede that either:

1. Life *doesn’t* actually begin at the instant of conception.

Or…

2. 10-year olds should be required to carry their rapist’s child to term.

So which is it?

I think sensible pro-choice folks took notice of these vexing issues a long time ago and voted to keep abortion legal for situations like this. Republicans, on the other hand, wanted to force a very narrow morality on all of us and are now back-pedaling furiously from the consequences.

I mean, there's a middle ground that the Republicans also refuse to acknowledge. "Life," "human," and "person" all have different meanings and different moral consequences. Even if an egg is fertilized doesn't necessarily mean it's "human life" yet. And, just because human life exists, doesn't mean it's a person. For example, an individual in a permanent vegetative state is probably still human life, but they're arguably no longer a person whose life has the same moral significance as an individual who is self-aware, can feel pain and all of that.

But that's all way too complicated if the goal is to make sure the dirty, dirty whores are punished for having sex.

I’m not saying what he’s doing is right, but a PP said “so anyone who terminated would be public knowledge?” And no, that is not true. He’s saying no abortion on a 10 year old patient was reported. Demographic info like age is required to report just like it is in all but a handful of states. So either it never happened, or the doctor failed to report it.

Actually, what he said is that so far no records of a report have been produced. His letter also acknowledges that the new system is slower to review, and never says the records have been reviewed exhaustively. The agency had only acknowledged the request the day before Rokita sent his letter, and he didn’t want to wait for confirmation before sending the letter because if it turned out the doctor had reported it, he wouldn’t be able to make public threats against the doctor.

Also, with respect to the reporting requirements for suspected child abuse, if the doctor performed the abortion as a staff member of the hospital, the report would not necessarily be in her name because the reporting process for hospitals is different. In addition, Indiana Code 31-33-5-3 provides that an individual is relieved of their obligation to report if, to the best of their knowledge, a report has already been made. The girl’s mother had already reported to the abuse in Ohio before going to Indiana for the abortion. If the Indiana doctor was aware of this, she would not have been under an obligation to report the suspected abuse to Indiana.

Without the child abuse element, she would not have to submit a TPR report for this abortion until January 30 of next year.

Correct. Go look at the GOP corruption thread for more. I lost track over the hundred plus pages of how many rapists and child rapists and other assorted life destroying sex crimes various Republican elected officials are guilty of. It’s disgusting and it’s clearly a serious problem in the party.

Yeah, I’m a political moderate who has voted for Republicans in the past, and I used to think that the Democrats were being pretty hypocritical about the sex assaults by Republicans because there are plenty of sex assaulter amongst the Democrats too. But the aftermath of the Roe decision has shown to me that this issue of Republican child rapists is deeply part of the party. They really, as a group, support child rape. It’s horrifying to watch.

I’m probably not going to vote Republican again in my lifetime, barring serious restructuring of the party. I can’t stomach it. Between the enthusiastic cheerleading for child rape (my God!!), the insurrection, and the blind allegiance to the gun lobby, I can’t see how I could ever vote for them.

What is inaccurate about that assessment and the current Republicans? They are in favor of child rape.

ٌYou venal pieces of crap. You seem to grasp on some level that forcing a child to continue a pregnancy is bad, to the extent that one of your mouthpieces speaking before congress literally said that an abortion for a ten year old isn’t abortion (as you have tried to say with ectopic and other life threatening pregnancies, even though the law is written such that doctors can’t give lifesaving abortions in these states).

Come off it. Your whole policy position is stupid and cruel. You know that everyone who isn’t a kool aid swilling forced birther sees that now and you are effing terrified. It’s just a matter of time before some poor 9 or 13 year old dies from pregnancy complications or some photogenic Instagram woman with three kids and 500,000 followers is murdered by your idiotic laws. Isn’t the witness saying that the law would not prevent the 10 year old from seeking an abortion because she could be harmed?

Slow your roll. I am firmly pro-choice, probably more extremely pro-choice than most here. I support abortion or termination of pregnancy at any time on demand for any reason. Even if this case was fully fabricated I honestly don’t care as forced birthers need to understand the consequences of their actions.

I was simply pointing out that the fact that Indiana collects and reports this data is not a reason to freak out. Most states do and have for a long time.

You’re right, I missed the part of the letter that stated the report may not be showing up due to a lag in the system. Mea culpa. This person should not be abusing the data exists in an attempt to punish the doctor who performed the abortion or identify the child.

Yes, that’s what she claimed. She also claimed that the 10 year old’s abortion wouldn’t be an abortion because she’s 10 and that’s different. But that’s not the way the law was written or interpreted by the hospital lawyers, hence her having to go out of state.

It’s like the forced birthers are so close to admitting the damage that forced birth does to all women and the children resulting from it, but they just want to punish women so damn badly they’ll twist themselves into these pretzels.

She’s trying to explain why the law would not apply to the child, i.e. it would not meet the terms of abortion defined by their law due to her age and due to rape. The hospital was in error here, and I would dare say negligent. Another in-state hospital could have made a different decision.

How will Ohio adjudicate rape cases quick enough so that rape victims could get an abortion right away?
Anonymous
Yup. Babies being forced to give birth to babies.

Any pro-lifers on this forum with young daughters, this could be your daughter. And many girls start their periods before the age of 10.

I had enough trouble giving birth and I’m a fully grown 130 lb woman. What do you think will happen if you force a young girl to give birth or her rapist’s baby? How do you think she is going to feel about you when she is an adult? Do you think that she is going to forgive you?

And don’t think that your daughters are safe because they are homeschooled and only leave the house to go to church.

You know it’s game over.

Isn’t the witness saying that the law would not prevent the 10 year old from seeking an abortion because she could be harmed?

The guy who wrote the law says the 10-year-old needs to stay pregnant and give birth.

Can I see that in a documented statement from the lawmaker who wrote the law please?

Would you like it notarized and in triplicate?

WTF are you talking about? “Cheerleading for child rape”?? Do you even hear yourself?

What is inaccurate about that assessment and the current Republicans? They are in favor of child rape.

The more you repeat this garbage, the farther people will run from you. Please stop. No one - NO ONE - is in favor of child rape, or rape of any kind. You just sound like an utter psychopath.

No, it sounds accurate. This is what the Republicans support now. It’s upsetting you because it’s true.

JFC. Seek help. There’s no point trying to converse with disturbed people like you.

I would think the people in favor of children being raped and forced to bear the child of their rapists are the ones who need to seek help. But if you don’t see anything wrong with that, I can’t help you.

Of course because they also want to validate the “rights” of the rapist and award him at least partial custody because, as they keep telling us, children raised without a father figure go in to buy assault rifles and commit mass murder. It’s a twisted christofascist cult.

She wasn't trying to "explain" anything. She just made an assertion that was untrue because the truth is unpleasant.
